Thanks for the response. If I'm understanding you correctly, recording to USB drives is possible, yet I can only record live TV feeds on my Z10, not TV shows, movies or PPV. Same with my NAS. Is this typical with OS10?

I was advised that the GTV has been upgraded to OS10. Is that correct? If do, does that mean that you cannot download files to external USB drives due to the restrictions in OS10?
I have a Z10 Pro Max and was advised by Formuler that I cannot download on this box due to these OS10 restrictions.

ok. Thanks!

Can someone advise whether I can record VOD, TV Series and movies from MOL2 to my NAS?
I'm able to record Live TV, but the box will not let me record anything else.
Thanks!

Thanks morden2004. I set the SMB protocols to min SMB2 max SMB3 and the NAS works just fine now.

addendum:
I cannot write to the NAS from Xplore via the z10.

The z10 cannot download to an external drive or SD card but I've read on this forum that it works well with a NAS. So I set up a NAS on my Raspberry Pi. The NAS is recognized by my network, and I can read and write to the NAS from my Windows 10 computers. The z10 also recognizes the NAS. I set it up as the target destination for downloading files (using Kodi). When I download files, Kodi shows it downloading, but the file does not show up on my NAS (or anywhere that I can see). Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Please explain in detail what you want to do. recording live TV or moving files from pc to same connected hdd on the box (last one will not work)? Nas works perfect with this box.
Hi Sam
I'm trying to add external storage to save media that I have downloaded through Kodi.
I can write to internal storage with no problem. Can I simply expand internal storage beyond the installed 32Gb using say, an SD card? I haven't been able to do that either.
Also, I haven't been successful connecting the box to my WD MyCloud Home device. I enter all of the required information- NAS name, IP address, username, password. I get a message advising that the connection parameters are incorrect.
Thanks!

Hi Sam
I am unable to set up an external drive (using an HDD, micro SD or thumb drive) on the Z10 Pro Max. I have followed your instructions above explicitly and although the z10 recognizes the existence of the external drive, and can read from it, it does not allow me to write to the drive.
I contacted Formuler support regarding the issue and they advise that the Android 10 operating system does not allow the addition of a read / write drive. Yet your instructions above seem to indicate that it is possible. There are also a lot of users in multiple forums that claim to be able to mount and write to an external drive.
Is there a work around?

Has anyone successfully set up a Western Digital MyCloud Home as a network storage device on a Z10 Pro Max? I was unable to set up a hard drive, sd card or a thumb drive as a storage device and was hoping to use my MyCloud Home for storage. So far, I haven't been able to mount the drive.
Thanks!

FYI check out this description for mounting an HDD on a z10. I attempted this, and everything responded as described until I reached step 11. This screen doesn't show up for me (where I can choose between internal and external memory). Hence I was unsuccessful at accessing the external drive.

Hi henkie
Actually, the reports that I read online specifically refer to HDD's, thumb drives and cards. This is the 4th Android box that I've owned, and the previous 3 allowed me to attach an HDD or an SD card rather effortlessly. The Formuler is the first that I've had any difficulty with. I can use it with the on-board 32 Gb of storage. It actually works very well, and very quickly when it comes to searching and downloading files to the internal storage. I just tend to like to keep a lot files on-hand so that I can binge watch them when time permits.
So, as far as you know, there isn't a fix for this issue?

I'm having the same issue as Noel. I just bought a new Z10 Pro Max. I attempted to separately attach an external Western Digital HDD, a thumb drive and a micro SD. In each case, I formatted the device in NFTS, using disk manager in Windows first, then using Rufus as suggested on this site. I also tried exFat formatting. In each case, the device is recognised by the Z10, as it shows up in the list of onboard storage devices when I check my device preferences. But when I attempt to download a video, the Z10 shows the file being downloaded, but it doesn't download to any of the previously formatted storage devices. (I tried each storage device separately). I cannot find the file downloaded elsewhere either. I read all over the internet internet that other people are able to install external storage on the Z10, but none of their descriptions on how to accomplish this seems to work for me. If I'm reading Sam's last reply correctly, it seems to imply that this issue is endemic to the Z10, yet if that's the case, others shouldn't be able to attach extra storage. Are there any other settings or fixes that I can try?
