    Hi,

To be fair most suggested has already been mentioned and tested when i was testing this issue and posted about it but still good tips for people to follow

Static IP i always use on my network for permanent devices and still had buffering but if you have been following my thread posted above, the issue was only happening with one provider not any others, i am testing some providers and will be testing some more in due course. Giving static IPs for permanent devices i do it on devices themselves and via my router web-gui, in my case i have put my box outside my DHCP pool range. One it allows to locate it on the network at anytime and two if using a VPN there are going to be issues with leaking and connectivity as when the router DHCP renews the devices IP address it may hand it out a new LAN ip address, when using VPN if the device IP changes (gets released back to the DHCP pool) the VPN will not know which device to route over the vpn client because the device IP has changed, this is based on running the vpn client directly at router level which i recommend over any vpn app.

In regards to buffer i recommend everyone set it to 10 seconds regardless, it will only help build a 10sec buffer to help with smoother streaming.

In my testing all ethernet cables were all replaced with CAT6a (as i was replacing some of my networking equipment anyway).

Throttling, some ISPs do, some don't, my ISP does not, however i recommend as you suggested using a VPN to stop throttling and for privacy reasons, however some may throttle vpn traffic over default port 1198, so depending on vpn provider and ISP you may need to try different ports, vpn over ssl or ssh, hiding vpn fingerprint, one of my vpn providers allow all this with configuration then i set it up on the router, my other vpn provider is very basic but ideal for streaming over vpn without any technical knowledge.

anyway good suggestions you have posted and welcome to the community!

    Hi,

Looking at one of the official distributors for uk, i see they recommend the Formuler® F-360 Android Wireless Game Pad Controller for Z and S Series obviously you will need to find a seller where you are but this seems what you maybe looking for. I never had the need for one so not sure if others would work or not.

    Hallo,

    Hi,

You should not need to even change these settings as the box will use what your tv support. Leave them as they are, if there is no problem then there is no need to change. These settings vary and is dependant on what your tv panel supports, hdmi cable being used and your personal preference. Video color space & HDMI deep color i would recommend googling and reading up about it as it is quite complex to understand and again it's dependant on the above and every tv is different.

I'm sorry but i never casted you as a nobody so not sure why you got that impression, all i stated was a fact about the beta being invite only because of potential issues if an average user tries to install the beta firmware. Also you never mentioned once you were a reseller or that you was given the instructions by your provider, problem is people post with lack of information and then expect others to mind read the rest.

You come on the forum with 1 post to your username yesterday in this thread, complaining about the epg not working on beta, i checked the beta group and you was not on it, you also never mentioned you was given the information by your provider. How am i suppose to know all of that if you do not give enough information when posting. I therefore cannot know you are a reseller and that you was told to do it by your provider.

If you are a reseller for these boxes then why sell them if you are not happy with it? i am not Formuler neither am i there developer, if you have issues with them take it up directly with them. I am just a customer like everyone else and have been having problems myself and been doing everything i can to help myself and others.

anyway i'm not here to argue with you or anyone else, all i do is come on when i have a bit of time here and there through they day reading threads and trying to offer help to others if i am able to do so.

    Edit.

    Hi,

The information to install the beta should never have been posted and anyone who is not in the beta programme are installing the beta firmware at there own risk.

Formuler invite people by invitation only to avoid anyone installing the beta firmware which is risky in itself and can cause allot of problems for average users. I cannot see you in the beta group so i assume you installed the beta firmware based on the information that was temporarily posted by a user.

Information regarding issues currently ongoing in beta is meant to stay in the beta group so it can be tracked and discussed by the relevant people and then if needed passed on to the devs etc, there is a process to this for a reason and this is to ensure bugs are ironed out before an official release, unfortunately since the information was posted but now deleted average users have been installing the beta firmware and then demanding help and wanting to downgrade, the information that was posted only contained a fraction of the information needed so users are at a loss and not sure what to do using up valuable time, when that time could be being used to test the beta firmware further.

It's beta firmware for a reason and the issues you describe is exactly why Formuler use an invite only approach to avoid these kind of problems for it's customers and to ensure best possible experience when using there Formuler device. Formuler is aware of the issue and it is currently being tested in the beta group and why it's beta and not an official public release.

Please do not take this as me having a go at you just wanted to clarify the situation.

Have you tried other android boxes? I am not affiliated or paid in anyway but i can genuinely and honestly say the Formuler Z7+ is by far the least problematic box i have purchased.

My last box required installing unofficial custom firmware from a community forum with no audits, patches, addons just to get the basics working and then still riddled with bugs and a support team that was in denial and blamed the customer, manufacturer did not care hence the unofficial community custom firmware and the support was from the distributor, manufacturer did not want to know or supported there users and i paid double the price of the Formuler Z7+ and that's before even going into when using kodi how i had to install wrappers and addons just to play a basic video and that came with green/pink video being displayed, when it did play a video fine it stuttered, freezed and crashed regularly. Honestly it was a nightmare.

Bugs unfortunately will always exist it's just one of those things and it will not be any different with other boxes, in my case it was muchworse, formuler are always doing there best and new firmware updates are being released regularly when beta testing is complete.

This box is still new and like anything new firmware takes time to mature. I understand how frustrating it can be but from my experience the firmware on the formuler box is much more mature and stable than i have seen on other boxes that have been released 1/2+ years ago.

@droidbug all good now, as I said I managed to quickly disable the VPN using the mirror and then factory reset from the settings menu. Everything as good as new.

    Excellent

I noticed the problems with the HDD so I always removed it when booting, I think I will keep unplugged until the next update now  .

If you have lots of stuff on the HDD and no way of backing it up elsewhere then yes would be easier to wait for next firmware release, if not much on there and you can back it up then you could just format it using FAT32 or NTFS then add backed up stuff back, your choice.

I hope that by disabling all autostart apps will resolve the standby issue, otherwise I will have the box turn OFF rather than on Standby when using the STB button on the remote.

I do not have apps auto start and it still happens. I hold down power button and choose power off but still seems to happen.

I find if i press power button to bootup device and it does nothing, if i press power button again 2/3 times it seems to work for me.

OMG! This is so funny now... lol
I have seen @makiadi61 instructions to install beta basically when he posted it 10 hours ago and I thought, "nice, at least for those that are willing to install even with possible bugs, is nice to have the option at least"... and now... the instructions are gone and I didn't have the opportunity to memorize it! Oh snap... lol

But now seriously, if anybody that goes through the whole process to install betas, wouldn't be smart enough to now that are risks and bugs inherent from a beta!? More feedback from betas wouldn't help in debugging and actually release the final version sooner?
Why not give the option and let the end user decide?

    Just my 2 pence...

to my knowledge formuler is not a massive company (i do not know though) so having potentially hundreds/thousands of people testing beta and sending feedback would probably be to much to handle as i think they are just a small development team and would likely be to overwhelming and could cause further issues. Plus many people will ignore the advice and install beta firmware anyway then demand help and assistance whilst providing very little information to go on and makes the problem even bigger.

Well that's a relief, so is it showing no signal now or all ok?

Totally agree don't allow apps to auto start as there seems to be some odd behaviour when doing so.

Regarding the standby issue, i mentioned in a previous post on this thread, when it happens i find pressing the power button 2/3 times on remote brings it back to life and boots up normally then so try that in future. As this issue continues with multiple users i would imagine this will be escalated as a potential bug for further investigation.

in regards to the file system if you format for example a usb flash drive/hdd using exFAT as the filesystem then plug it into your box it will cause a IPTVLauncher has crashed, this happens in a continuous loop, so to solve you remove usb flash drive then reboot. This is fixed in next firmware release but in the meantime use FAT32 or NTFS, i do not recommend trying either as well it's a bug.

From what i understand, when you have hdd plugged in and boot device it gets stuck on checking for updates? but when you unplug hdd it boots up fine? If the file system on the HDD is exFAT then that will be your issue. So you will need to either format HDD to FAT32 or NTFS (i prefer NTFS myself on HDDs) and FAT32 on microsd or keep it unplugged until the new firmware release becomes available.

If getting stuck on checking for updates continues although i bet it's because you are using exFAT, although after the issues you have had i would just unplug everything at this point except the power cable, reboot device then go to settings -> system -> factory reset and start from fresh.

The mirror app only works when the box is booted up hence i mentioned try another HDMI cable as a no signal indicates hdmi faulty cable. Did you try another HDMI cable? it was step 1) in my previous post.

a red triangle indicates android has gone into recovery mode. At this point i would go through the manual recovery instructions and try again. The PIA app cannot launch until box has booted up past a certain level and if entering manual recovery it should not interfere at all.

Did you by any chance try to install beta firmware, it was temporary mentioned on this forum and then removed?

I am going to tag @SAM at this point to see if he can assist any further as i'm not aware of any other recovery method.

    Thanks for your reply.
I connected the remote controller app to mirror the screen and it seems to boot and then crash when it autoruns the PIA VPN app.

    Will try the recovery steps.

Ok, seems odd as it showing no signal on tv if you can view via the remote controller app, therefore a signal should be being sent to the tv, maybe you have a faulty HDMI cable in addition to the PIA app issue.

Do you by any chance have a usb/micro sd card or hdd plugged in? if so disconnect these and try powering up again. also DO NOT format any drive using exFAT file system as at the moment there is a bug that causes IPTVLauncher to crash, so format using FAT32 or NTFS, use FAT32 for manual recovery if you do that, so if you have plugged anything in disconnect and try powering up again.. So try this as well before manual recovery.

I had this problem and now my box won't boot. I get a no signal after the Formuler z+ splash screen. Can anyone help?

My box is a week old

    Ok somethings to try:

    1) First try another HDMI cable as i have had this with dodgy HDMI cables not being able to send a signal to the tv so tv will say no signal. If no luck then try another HDMI port on your TV.

    2) Sounds daft but have you tried pulling cable from back of box? then wait a few minutes then re-insert?

    3) Does the light on the box light up at all? even after step 2?

    4) After inserting power cable back in, press power button 2/3 times, check to see if you see a light on front of box or anything on screen.

    5) Could be power faulty power adaptor/box if there is no sign of life, ie. no light showing at all on front of box.

Alternatively you could follow these manual recovery instructions. Please read them several times before proceeding.

    Hi,

So if you press 'resolution' on formuler remote control you see nothing still?

If so press 'resolution' then up or down arrow, sometimes maybe more than once ad hopefully it will change to a supported resolution and display again even though you will not be able to see anything when doing this as you say nothing showing now. Either that or check your tv settings and try changing resolution from there.

I believe this information is only given to those who are invited as displaying this information publicly means anyone can install the betas and if a novice or someone decides to try this they could end up with more problems than they began with. I mean if people just install the beta without invite and something terrible happened to there device (ie. gets bricked, although very rare) or something else i am not sure Formuler would cover them under warranty as they did it off there own back without being invited officially to participate in the beta programme. Installing any Beta or Alpha software comes with risks.

I assume if allowed it's done at there own risk, i maybe totally wrong but they invite people rather than announce it publicly i assume is for this kind of reason. Someone please correct me if i am wrong.

    Thank you.

I'm sure next it will be delayed by another 2 weeks, then a month... lol

Unfortunately some bugs get through and at times things don't work as expected. Sure they could release the firmware but then you will be on here complaining the new update has caused even more problems, it's a game of cat and mouse, simply put it's not quite ready due to the many changes made but will be worth the extra wait for a better and more stable firmware. As frustrating as it is, i certainly understand how you feel but when it comes to any type of development patience is key. Please don't take this as me having a go or anything as i am not just wanted to explain.

How can I get the beta version then.

It requires an invitation from staff, the beta is not open to the public to test.

I’ve had the same problem happen to me a couple of times. I had the myonlinetv app and IPVanishVPN running at the same time when I put it into sleep mode.

I always close all apps before putting box in to standby.

    ---------

Anyway, as i mentioned two posts above, the same happened again this morning, it seems the box once in standby after a period of hours, i'd say maybe 6 or hours then the box has trouble booting from standby.

When i take box from standby i press power button, formuler bootup logo shows and does nothing, just stays on that screen, only thing to get past the formuler bootup logo is to press the power button 2/3 times, then it shows the android loading circle before checking for updates then boots as normal.

It's primarily red streaks that are going horizontally on the screen, but very random. Maybe I'll see if it shows up on video and attach it. I tried to run the Antutu Benchmark and got some results from doing the Test, but not sure what I'm really looking at. I tried to do the Stress Test too, I let it go for over an hour but it never gave me anything, it said it was still testing. I'm not sure how long that normally takes but it felt like an hour should have been good enough. I canceled it, maybe I'll try to run it again when I have more time to let it go.

Do not worry about the results, It's only a benchmarking app so results are irrelevant, the point was to stress test the box without waiting around to see if under load the lines got worse which would indicate a hardware issue. Also you can stop it at anytime, it does not need to be run for more than let say 5 minutes, sorry should have made that a bit more clear in previous post.

At this point if a factory and software reset does not work and changing the cable then i would be inclined to try another power adaptor as i know this kind of things happens with faulty power adaptors or overheating adaptors and other components, it's why i said test box using antutu benchmark to see if it worsens under stress.

Also another thing i forgot to mention previously is try another HDMI port on your TV and if you can i know it sounds a pain but do you have another HDMI cable to try? Do you have another tv to hookup the formuler box to? if yes please hook it up to another tv and please report if same happens.

If still no luck then i would at that point be inclined to still believe your box is faulty, hardware wise. firmware can cause this kind of thing to but i'm very sure it would be very widespread issue and apparent if it was that.

Does it also happen when not using apps? ie. on home screen, in settings? Do you find it only happens when doing more demanding stuff, ie. running apps (any app) not just streaming apps ?

This sounds like a graphics issue (hardware issue) or issue with the HDMI port or even the power adaptor if it possibly faulty, heat can also be known to cause these sort of issues. This is the kind of thing i have seen in the past when GPU is on it's way out or one of the above as i've mentioned, plus you already have changed the cable.

You could try a factory and software reset to just see if issue continues, try playing about with box, opening/closing apps, doing demanding stuff and see if it only happens when doing demanding stuff.

To test this you could download something like 'Antutu Benchmark' from market or google play store as this would put device under stress, if it worsened whilst under stress then i'd say hardware issue releated to GPU, although i know faulty power adaptors and overheating adaptors to cause this kind of thing to. Either that or a dodgy setting but doubt that to be honest.

    Ok,

As always shut down my box by holding down power button to put into standby like i always do, this morning it would not boot past the formuler logo boot screen, i had to press power button twice/three times which caused it to restart and then boot up as normal. Since booting my date/time is wrong as showing as Monday 10 April 2017 and 1:00AM because it seems i had no internet access on the box even though it's actually connected and my router shows it as connected. Only way to get internet back was to reboot my router, odd as my router logs does not show my vpn went down or anything, infact another device was accessing the internet via vpn fine. Very odd behaviour.

I will let you know, thanks

No problem, i've just been testing by putting my box into standby by just pressing power button. So far cannot replicate the issue.

Do you find it comes out of standby mode fine if you attempt to take the box out of standby mode within a few minutes of actually putting it into standby? reason i ask incase it only happens once box been in standby for a set period of time. I've tested by keeping box in standby for a few minutes and switching my source back to tv then back to box just to see and still boots up from standby fine.

I also close all apps before going into standby (ocd i think lol) so just of of curiosity i opened MOL then pressed home button on remote then went into standby and booted from standby fine.

If know it did happen to me on about 3 occasions, same day and following day of receiving my formuler box but nothing since.

Are there any recommended PQ settings?

Not to my knowledge, just choose reset and see if that works, if not just play about with PQ Settings, it's very difficult as every tv panel is different in so many ways it's difficult to advise, most tv's by default have settings set to make colours so bright and saturated everything looks like it's jumping out at you which is what manufacturers want, they want you to notice there tv amongst the rest so saturated colours make the screen pop, ie. think Samsung both tv and mobile screens.

I also have my tv picture setting (not formuler box settings) on Movie as Movie represents more true to life accurate colours compared to other options, again every manufacturer have different names. Even my brightness is is only on 48% out out of 100%. I find tv's by default over saturate colours on default settings describing the issue in this thread and the brightness is always way to high usually, if you see blue skies all the time, bright green grass almost luminous in some cases, faces that look to rosy then it's possible you may also want to look at your actual tv picture settings unless they look perfect when not using formuler box, if that is the case then i can only suggest you try the above.

when you change refresh rate and certain settings the tv will flicker/go blank, do you mean a constant flicker that does not stop?

Press 'Resolution' button on remote and try different resolutions, when in MOL hold down VFormat button on remote control then when PQsettings appear select 'reset'. If still no luck select Imprex Engine and play about with the settings there.

I'm not sure what else to suggest.

I turned off MOL as the startup app and selected none, as suggested by Sam. I tried to start the box from standby and unfortunately it wouldn’t start again, so changing the start up app to none hasn’t helped me. as usual I unplugged power and put plug back in and it rebooted. I will now try droidbugs suggestion of pressing and holding power button and select stand by from there.

I've not been able to replicate the issue since but i do hold down power button and then select standby or shut down from there and no issues.

Would be Interesting to see if the same happens when you power down as i described rather than having the option in cog icon (settings) -> System -> Power Mode (Standby) and then just pressing power button when you want it to go into standby.

Is it me, i have noticed 3 new accounts now seem to be posting/asking same or very similar, including not explaining very well , get the feeling we getting the run around or being messed about.

Sorry if you are not but something odd seems to be going on.

    Anyway...

I am having same issue,,, please tell me if i do set setting on sdr what really i will miss then instead of using HDR 10 or auto..
please also tell me there more option of 8bit and 10 bit like RGB 10bit , what is all this . Please tell me if you can help me on that...

Regarding HDR10/Auto, just choose Auto, it will then use the one supported by you're tv, hence Auto. Regarding 8bit/10bit/12bit, RGB/YCbCr check this link. Unless you're tv screen is a 10bit panel choose one of the 8bit options, ie. YCbCr444 8bit or YCbCr420 8bit. It will say if not supported by you're tv when you select an option. My tv is set to YCbCr422 (12bit, UHD Deep Color) but every tv is different and depends if it a 4K tv or not.

Do we know the date of the update? is it this week, next week, or no set date yes. Thanks in advance

There is no specific date just end of march. From what i know i would say within the next two weeks but could be totally wrong.

What one has to remember these are OTT (over the air) updates, if not tested extensively as soon as everyone put device in standby and then boot up there device, their device will update, that's great if all is ok but if there were a serious bug or issue with the update it could mean loads of unhappy customers and major widespread issues and potential dead boxes (yep firmware has bricked devices in the past although very rare i must say).

As much as we all want it, we don't want an update that could cause a major issue for everyone so best these things get tested before being released to the masses.

    Update: (from another thread)

from home screen, select cog icon -> android -> display -> image settings, ensure they all on 50.

from home screen. select cog icon -> android -> advanced options ->ensure TV HDR Mode is set to 'auto' and video color space & HDMI deep color (try another option) ie. YCbCr444 8bit or YCbCr420 8bit, I had something similar happen when choosing 10bit as my sammy has a 10bit panel and on older programs etc it makes there face look like tangerines and odd looking so try this setting to.

    Google
    Translate be warned

    Deutsch:
press 'resolution' on the remote and try a resolution with a higher frame rate, you can get a choppy picture with panning scenes in sports, if the frame rate is not correct, I think, look at your TV settings for something along the lines at motion blur.

    English:
press 'resolution' on remote control and try a resolution with a higher frame rate, you can get a choppy image with panning scenes in sports if framerate is not correct i think, also look at you're tv settings for something along the lines of motion blur.

    Just a quick update.

The other day i do remember this happening, when playing vod and when rewinding/fast forwarding on occasions for no reason the video would stop and return to menu. So this is likely a bug but i get a feeling for some reason the error being described is maybe a seperate issue although i could be wrong.

Also not sure if this is provider end or not but when playing VOD content sometimes the total time (time until video finishes) will show crazy amount of hours other times it shows the correct total time.

Well it's claimed to be 4K and technically is but the only true 4K is 4K UHD blu-ray, high compression and low bitrates will make 4K streams overall picture quality less than that is found on UHD blu-ray.

However have you tried another app, maybe perfect player or one from your provider? just to see out of curiosity if same happens with another app or just with mytvonline app. Does other vod content play? if yes i would find it odd the problem would be with the mytvonline app as whether it's hd, fhd, 4k it should not make any difference to the mytvonline app hence i think it maybe an issue with you're provider or connection.

Without knowing much about your setup it sounds like to me either your internet connection is not fast enough, ie. netflix recommends a minimum of 25mbps and that's without using a vpn and other general factors that effects connection speed. You're router maybe not able to cope with the bandwidth or other device on your network using all the available bandwidth, try over ethernet if using WiFi.

Also contact you're provider maybe a problem there end, tell them the error/problem you are getting and they maybe able to tell you why you are getting that error. I say this because the other day i had either the same or similar error (cannot remember) and it was a server problem with provider not being able to load some videos. Then i had another issue where vpn was not enabled on vod content so had to contact provider to enable as prior to that video would not load, just cannot remember for the life of me if it was exact same error as yours or similar.

One last point, they must be a very good iptv provider with stonking servers if they can stream 4k content to users without it effecting there servers. ie. server overload and the fact streaming of live tv etc as well. Many providers servers struggle with just streaming FHD hence i find good ones tend to provide vod and on demand in 720p and some 1080p to stop there servers struggling so for them to be streaming 4K it is rather suprising as servers don't come cheap to rent. Please do not take this as criticism as it is not, just a point i feel is worth noting.

Or i could be totally wrong and maybe a bug, reply back with more information as without it, it's difficult to determine.

EDIT: Sorry made a few edits so you will need to read it again.

When i first got box i had this happen about 3 times, had to pull cord, running via ethernet, not set mytvonline to start at bootup, i always do a 'hold menu, press red' to close anything before opening other apps or turning box off.

The box was only 1 to 2 days old and was having other problems so never got chance to see what was causing it. It's not happened since but one thing i do remember is, if you press and hold down power button from home screen and turn off or put box in standby that way i no longer had the issue but cannot cofirm for definite if this was the issue as was testing other things at the time, Just a thought.

I cannot test as box is on being used at the moment, but maybe putting into standby via remote by holding down power button is fine but maybe not when using the setting to turn box to standby when just pressing power button (via android -> system).

Not tested and not sure if others have but am sure it stopped happening after i started holding down power button and choosing from there rather than just press power button once and it go into standby.

    Hi,

With coming update will be fixed some critical VOD playback bug. I will contact you this days when the beta comes and we test in background. If the problem in your request still exist then we can forward this to the devs.

ok, well i don't think it's a bug or anything just by design unless devs did not mean for it to be so quick. it's either repetitive pressing to go not too fast or press and hold and it flies through too quick. Either way look forward to this update.

    Hey Laz,

press and hold down the 'Menu' button on remote, you will then see all current running apps, use remote control arrows to go left/right and down arrow to close or just press red button on remote to close them all.

Before leaving a app that plays video/music etc just press stop button on remote control first to stop it playing if you still want to keep app open/running in background, usually on some apps like mytvonline pressing exit will ask do you want to exit, not all apps are like that thought so use above procedure. Hope this helps.

    Hey

Just wanted to see if this is something that could be suggested to the devs.

When watching vod/on demand via mytvonline app, the rewind and fast forward is somewhat clunky. By this i mean to rewind or fast forward at a reasonable speed without going extremely quick is to repeatedly press the rewind/fast forward buttons, this is tedious and slow. Only way to do it fast is to hold down rewind/fast forward button and release, problem is this is then too quick and am noticing every time i rewind/fast forward it becomes a bit of a task either having to constant press button to go at reasonable speed or hold down button and then go too fast.

What i am asking for here is a setting that we could change the speed at which the rewind/fast forward operates at. with VOD you can choose external player, ie. mxplayer which has such settings.

Is this something that could be suggested and passed over to the devs?

    Thank you! :grinning_squinting_face:

I had iplayer working the other day over vpn, installed via play store. BBC actively blocks VPNs, if you are having issue viewing. it's a game of cat and mouse, just got to switch to mouse mode on remote for iplayer.

It does not make any difference whether you connect via vpn via an app, or directly at router level or any other method, if you are connected to a VPN then you are connected. (use ipleak.net and dnsleaktest.com) to verify, i run at router level so if vpn tunnel goes down all connected devices are blocked so my real IP is not revealed.

PIA for example is very basic, I mean it took me an hour or so of searching just to find the openvpn config files on there site then more time configuring everything, all there site was interested in doing was bombarding me to download their apps, some providers go for simplicity over security and more hardcore features.

    Update:

    possible bug:

OP has not replied but yesterday i did a software reset then factory reset, no running apps or anything totally fresh factory reset.

I can confirm that when going to Android -> Google -> Location, it causes a white screen, apps becomes unresponsive. Only way to exit is go to home screen, Only way to turn Location on/off is to search location as mentioned in my previous post above.
