Ethernet vs. wifi

    I recently upgraded my internet service to 1 gig cable 500Mbps. I was hoping that doubling the speed will cut down on buffering and lagging. I have 2 different playlists and when on Ethernet, the buffering and lagging are constant, from both lists. I use a VPN and the speed is reduced by 90% when on (100 Mbps) and with VPN off, I get (350 Mbps) Never ever did I see 1 gig hardwired on my formuler z11

    I decided to stick with wifi for a few days to see if there's a difference in performance and to my surprise, there is.

    With wifi, buffering has decreased by 90 % with or without VPN.

    I had such a miserable time watching when hardwired, especially sports, that it became practically useless. Now with wifi stability is much better. I noticed that when buffering, I would immediately do a speed test and the test could not be performed because an error box pops up telling me that there isn't an internet connection. This is why I'm suspecting the modem is a problem, maybe.

    Could the new modem the ISP gave me be having issues when hard wired to the box?

    Whick vpn you use? Nordvpn? Fastest server is enough with a standard vpn.

    I have also 1 gig here. With vpn it's different. Then i got 800mb, then 250. Then 180.

    But no stuttering here.

    you can login on your router yes, maby lower firewall security.

    Since3 years ago when i bought z11 always used wifi,never any problems,never felt the need for ethernet connection:winking_face:

    Btw Formuler makes a political statement on its main page,so i think individual members are allowed to underscore this statement?

    Didn't see that, i'm on the Forum every day.

    And only on there website when a new box is out to see all specs etc.

    I used Nordvpn but didn't like it. I'm using a free vpn now. Also, ever since I moved up to the 1 gig speeds and was given a new modem by my isp provider, the new service broke my windows 11 pro OS beyond repair. I only got 100 Mbps and lost sound completely with win11 24H2. I spent days trying to fix this problem but I gave up after trying for a whole month. I installed Linux Mint and there are no problems at all.

    If nordvpn didn't fits you, try surfshark or express vpn. But no free vpn. Too slow.

    Try it without vpn and if stuttering is over than you need use paid vpn.

    Had NordVPN and had problems with W11 and email. Switched to Surfshark.
    No problems in W11 and works perfectly on Z12.
