Increased Mbps when using VPN?

    I am connected via an ethernet static IP address on my GTV and have fiber optic, when using a Surfshark Denmark VPN I am getting download and uploads speeds of 89Mbps/16Mbps, while without a VPN I am getting 45Mbps/8Mbps.

    I can't see how the higher speeds are correct unless my internet provider is capping my speed and the VPN avoids the cap, I am using a fiber optic speed test App downloaded from the Google App store, and have tested a few times with and without the VPN connection with the same results, just tried again on a Polish VPN using Wifi again with a static IP address and this time getting 88.18Mbps/14.57Mbps with VPN on and without VPN 46.06Mbps/7.99Mbps so it is not the VPN.

    I thought that a VPN killed the speed so can anyone confirm or explain what is going on, I would have provided a screenshot of my results but I don't have File Commander on GTV and can't recall how to connect my GTV to my laptop.

    Are you using Shadowsocks protocol in Surfhsark? If yes, this seems common issue. Try to change protocol and try again. Also this Fiber optic speed test app is not best, I saw it. You would be better with sideloading Speedtest app.

    Hi GR, My protocol was on automatic so I changed it to Wireguard and tested again and was still getting a higher Mbps when using a VPN, so I have sideloaded Ookla Speedtest and I am getting more or less the same Mbps with or without a VPN.

    So I don't think it is necessarily Surfshark but the Fiber Test App that is duff and now uninstalled.
