  • Hi,

How do I remove the block? The seller was Formuler I suspect, I purchased it from Amazon and there is no mention of geolocking in the listing. The seller is Amazon, guessing that means purchased directly?

I live in Austalia, there's no other distributor for these as far as I'm aware.

    The error code is 0000001FED52E

I can return the product though would prefer a solution if possible. I could use a VPN but I don't want to have to do that, my network is pretty complex and having it setup to use a VPN would be problematic long term.

I could do a temporary VPN connection via my phone if I can workaround to do a firmware update that would remove the block?

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Workaround on phone with a vpn connected to european country is a great idea. Nice one of you!💪🏻

If your box makes connection with the wifi on phone it has direct vpn connection and youn can set it up.

After that "i read" on forum on should be working over the world.

But i don't think this work anymore, cause when you startup your Z12 the block is already there, and the box shutdown itselfs.

You can always try, but i heard users said it shutdown directly.

Sent it back for another one.

Then it should work if you use your phone as vpn with europe connected and make with box wifi connection to phone. Should work i think.

Don't make the mistake to put also a utp cable in it the first time😉

  • I honestly don't get it, why does Formuler even do geo blocking at all?

It's legal for Australian's to remove geoblocking, laws were passed allowing us to modify devices that do. Copyright infringement Act 2008 enshrined our right to modify and circumvent.

I don't get why anyone would want to put any restrictions in place to begin with that would only hurt overall sales.

Perhaps its a licensing restriction on the codecs and other support included on the device, and if true then block the sale of the devices outside the regions to begin with. I have the Nvidia Shield pro currently so not hurting that much but the dolby vision was the main reason for getting this device and would love to make the Z12 my new goto streamer.

Guess will wait and see if anyone from the Formuler support team respond, as tomorrow I'll start the return process with Amazon and let them know to block the sale of these devices to anyone outside of the EU.

  • is this really all the support you can expect from Formuler?

Not a single post from the team, or any other means to contact them?

Trying hard not to leave a negative review here but the support process via this forum is extremely poor.

What do you want to hear? Formuler `s business policy and why the geo block exist. There are reasons for that and you have to accept it. Formuler do not need to explain in public how it works behind the closed doors with they partners! There are reasons, accept it.

  • Okay I'll send it back then.... such a shame. I guess I was right then that its locked down due to licensing restrictions.

You should let the product team know to explore global licensing options, the sales outside of EU would be worthwhile if you could market a product with global licensing and reach. People would likely even pay for it, similar to how nfuse works where users pay an annual fee for DTS licensing.

I just can't run this device over VPN, the tldr is I have a multi vlan setup and different networks for different devices, ie. work, kids, storage, media players, hosting etc. To VPN would lock that down even further hence not a viable option with local storage and hosting requirements.

To my original statement though, you shouldn't be selling these devices outside EU without warning that they are geo blocked to EU. Making them VPN only is a massive impact and not disclosing that up front is disingenuous.
