  • I've just gotten two Z Minis, and I've not had a lot of success connecting bluetooth devices to them. I've tried three pairs of headphones - Sony WI-C100, Anker Soundbuds Slim, and Aftershokz - and only the Aftershokz showed up on either Formuler. Both are on the latest firmware (12.1.10). I've also made sure that they're unpaired from other devices, and that the surround sound option is off. The particularly interesting thing here is that from what it looks like on a quick search anyway, the Sony and Anker are both BT5, whereas the Aftershokz are older and are BT4.2. But from what I can tell, the Mini Z should also be BT5. :upside_down_face: I have recently been able to pair the other two headphones with a wide variety of devices, including Android phones.

Additionally, I tried to connect a couple of different Android phones running a Bluetooth Remote app (to attempt to control the Formuler), and that didn't connect either. I'd very much like to use my phone to be able to control the Mini, but specifically via BT - I'm hoping to take these when I travel, and when you're on different wifi every couple of days, getting them both on the same network in each location gets annoying.

(Final note, the BT1 remotes pair fine on both devices.)

So I guess my questions are - 1. is there anything else I can try to get these headphones to connect? 2. is there any sort of guide/spec/etc on specific BT versions or other specs for what should expect to connect properly? 3. Has anyone gotten a phone with BT Remote to work? and if not, 4. is there a tiny/basic remote that anyone has successfully used with the Z Mini? I just want something minimal for travelling, just for using YT and similar apps - so I basically just need home, d-pad, select, and exit.

Thanks! Been quite happy with the setup so far other than this, so hopefully I can sort something out here.

  • 1: disconnect headphone from other devices and connect in android bluetooth settings the headphones.

2: search forum for website/forum for guide, if not find it isn't there. Looks for me bluetooth is bluetooth, so bluetooth version should not matter in theory.

3: i read on forum somewhere that should be possible. An app from google.

Google remote or so. Don't know anymore, i use my remote and no phone or google assistent on my box.

    4: i don't.

I wish i could help more, but maby other can. I tried...

  • 1. Mini support BT5, maybe is the pairing mode with the headphones the issue. I have 5 different and all of them connect with my boxes.

    2. No, because it should connect always when set box in search mode and headphone in pairing mode.

    3. Never read something about BT and phone.

    4. No, just the BT1 delivered with the box.

  • re: disconnecting them from other devices, etc...I had already tried that right from the beginning, and it's still not working. I did look for some sort of compatibility guide for headphones as well, but couldn't find anything. I'll keep looking though, just in case I missed it. And I can't find anything on either set of headphones to change a pairing mode at all, or even any evidence that there are different modes for them, but I'll keep checking on that front as well.

In terms of controlling the Mini with the google app, that unfortunately doesn't do what I'm looking for - unless I've missed a way to make that use bluetooth, but it only seems to be wifi. Ah well - guess maybe I'll have to do the annoying wifi/hotspot shuffle each time I change places when I travel; it's a bit irritating but I'd definitely rather not bring the large remote with me. (Although if I can't get any of my travel headphones to pair I may have to take some other device travelling anyway.) Thanks!
