Z8. Recording on usb: USB connection intermittent

I have a z8 and for me the ability to record is very important.

At last, in the latest firmware update. there is the ability for timed recording without EPG. However, I have a problem with keeping the usb connected. The Z8 goes to standby after a maximum of 3 hours. Although beforehand the Z8 sees the usb and the files on it, when the Z8 turns on after Standby I have to unplug and plug in the usb stick before the Z8 sees it. This makes the PVR function unusable for me.

Can anybody suggest 1. why my usb stick only connects intermittently and 2. What I need to do to keep the Z8 permanently on?

1. Did you format the USB to NTFS?

2. The Z8 will wake up from standby and go back into standby after scheduled recording is done. No need to have it on permanently.

The usb that works for recording is formatted as Fat32 not nfs. This is intermittently recognised by MYTVONLINE. When it recognises it, it also sees USB (EFI). I don't know what that is.

I tried to format another usb stick in ntfs with Rufus as per the instructions elsewhere o the Internet. Although the Z8 system storage sees it and formats it, when I go into MyTVOnline, "Recordings" doesn't see it.

In most cases we recommend NTFS format for use with Formuler Boxes (best experience)

Check this article -> How to format Micro SD card, USB flash drive, pen drive, hard drive or SSD for use with Z and S Boxes.

After that try to record live or schedule a recording while the Z8 is in standby mode and see if it works.

Thanks. I think that reformatting the usb from FAT32 to NTFS works, but I will only know definitely in a few days.

This could be, more , it is the reason for your problem because the box see two partitions and don`t know where to save recorded files. The box try to record on first EFI partition but this one is not for recording. Second EFI is for pc`s and not for such devices. When you format your usb stick, be sure it is only one partition (delete current two partitions on usb stick first) on usb stick, format in NTFS and use MBR partition scheme.

This is controlled by provider. If you are not able in Menu -> Settings -> Playback Limit to turn off and there is shown 3 hours in grey, then your provider controls the limit.

Some providers control this and some not.

My USB is fine but my z8 keeps recording on the wrong channel when set in guide
