Question about NAS

Hello

This will be my first post. Like most others, I start with a question.

I´m running: Z8 Official FW 1.4.57 - SW 7.6.7

I wonder about connecting to NAS. I have an old Apple TimeCapsule, want to connect to 10.200.100.50/data but can't. I have tried both with and without user / password.

I have also tested with a dividend on a Windows10 computer. There I have tested both with and without user / password.

Can you set which smb version that Formula Z8 uses for the connection? Or does anyone else have any suggestion / solution?

Hello,

Not sure if the IP Range 10.200.100.50 could be the issue, normal is 192.168.xxx.xxx.

My NAS (dns-325) is on a 10.x.x.x home network, and I don't have any issue connecting to my z8.

I will try more.. I have used "blind ip-adresses" so it should be okey there.

Can anyone tell me what Samba-version Z8 uses?

I think Samba 2, but set your NAS to accept all Samba versions. BTW. on Z8 you don`t need to activate Samba to connect with NAS. Just be sure you give your NAS and Z8 static ip and then on NAS all rights to share folder for Z8.

Samba2 should be fine with both TimeCapsule and Windows10

Yea, I have tried both ativated Samba on Z8 and also deactivated.

Do you think that a static ip can trigger something else.. and it work?

Yes, but they have both differt ip

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxy

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxz

they are controlled by mac-adress

Like i already told, you have to set both with static ip, if you do it on router level it`s also fine so long both devices becomes each time same ip.

What NAS are you using i set mine up with FREENAS windows 10 connected straight away, I couldn't connect z8 for ages trying every combination of network path 192.168.xx.xx/x/x/x . I named my pool Z8 ended up just to be 192.xxx.x.x/Z8

In the past, I could connect to NAS very easily through File Manager and be able to access my media files. After dropping to factory settings, I can't connect to the NAS via File Manager. Kodi sees the server without problems, Total Commander and TV File Commander as well. I connect my NAS to the Network Storage, but that doesn't help.

Maybe I do something wrong, but when I go to File Manager - LAN - All Network I get a response - no server.

I would love to help but mine is really hit and miss . I think I'm sorted then its not mounted anymore. I like the idea so i can watch recordings on

other devices but i think it has beaten me

What did you used before NFS or LAN connect? I can reach my NAS files with NFS, UPNP or LAN, all three working great.

After factory reset are all settings gone, static ip, the choices in settings etc. So you have to do it again. Please check following.

1. NAS: Check permissions for your share folder on NAS + Check NFS and Samba permissions.

2. Z8+NAS:Give your Z8 first static ip (NAS have already static IP if set right) and include this Z8 ip also on your NAS and allow all permissions. Shared Folder/Edit/Permissions.

3. Z8:Go on Z8 to Home Menu->Settings -> and activate Samba + DLNA/UPnP

4. Reboot your Z8.

5. Connect with NFS, LAN or UPnP, you should be able now to make shortcuts to your directory's on NAS.

Thanks a lot! It was enough to give a static IP to Z8 and everything worked out.
