  • Dear expert users,

I have a Z8 since a year and I just find out that my Ethernet connection is limited, now that I broke up my wifi antenna.

I have a theoretical internet connection speed of 400 Mb/s. When I connect with a Gbit ethernet cable directly to my Z8, the maximum speed I get is 33 Mb/s. This is similar to what I actually get from my broken wifi antenna.

I have tested using my laptop. When I connect exactly the same ethernet cable to my laptop, I get an internet speed of 340 Mb/s.

My ethernet connection on the Z8 is done using DHCP.

Would you please support me to understand why I have limited ethernet speed with my Z8? I thought the Z8 is compatible Gbit ethernet port, is it correct?

    Best regards,

    Makcoul

  • Hello All and thanks for your feedback.

I have determined the connection speed thanks to websites Speedtest.net and also using nperf to compare.

In both my formuler and laptop, I use chrome browser.

ON my formuler Z8, when I do the speed test using the ethernet connection, I disable the WIFI. I tried without and with VPN and the difference is only 4Mbps. Without VPN, the max speed I get with Gigabit cable is 33Mbps. What is also strange, the Upload speed is very close to the download speed, slightly below.

Knowing that on my computer I reach easily download speed between 340 and 360 Mbps using the Ethernet connection.

I am running out of ideas. Maybe the speed test using chrome app in formuler is not representative? I will try to install speedtest app as shown in F message.

I am running (have run) out of ideas, so any help to understand/solve the issue would be welcome.

    Thanks and best regards!

  • Hi

have you done this, assume you run windows?

    1. Right Click Network Icon lower right of Taskbar and choose Networking and sharing Center

    2. Click Change adapter settings in Left Pane

    3. Double Click the Connection you are working with

    4. Click Properties lower left in the Status Window that comes up

    5. Click the Configure Button

    6. Click Advanced Tab in the Properties Window

    7. In the Property scroll menu choose Speed and Duplex, change the Value to 1Gbp/s full duplex in the ValueDropdown right side

  • Don't think the Z8 runs windows

  • Hello again!

Hexagon, the Z8 is using android.

    @All,

I have installed speedtest android app on my Z8 and surprisingly the download test showed 370Mbps! Waww this is more logical with similar speed by using PC. So I guess my ethernet port on the Z_ is working fine. Many Thanks to F and to all of you who responded to this post.

Chrome speed tests (whatever the web site I use) is really not representative and it gave me a lot of headaches
