- What issue(s) are you having? No HDMI audio passthrough including PLEX
- What was you expecting to happen? Selected Settings -> Sound -> HDMI Output -> RAW. I was hoping to pass the audio signal directly to my Denon X4400H Amp to decode Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master
- What happened instead? Switching from Auto to RAW makes no difference, My DENON still shows a PCM input signal (Multi Channel In)
- How can we reproduce the issue you are having? Z8 Pro -> Denon X4400H -> Samsung 65MU8000 TV
- What have you tried if anything to rectify the issue? Nothing else to try. Perhaps a firmware update with a HDMI Audio passthrough option?
Not able to pass HDMI audio directly to my Denon X4400H receiver to allow the receiver to do all audio decoding.

Hello,
1. How is your TV equipment connected together?
2. Was "Audio Optimizer" installed from Market and executed once?
3. What kind of files are you using to test Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master?

Hi Sam,
My Z8 Pro is connected to my Denon X4400H Denon receiver through HDMI and from the receiver to my Samsung TV through HDMI. All devices are 4K ready. My Denon will tell me what signal it is receiving. When watching a 4K video through MYTVOnline 2 the info button shows 3840x2160i 23.97/fps HEVC/English AAC 5.1 Bitrate 14.1Mbps. My Denon shows "Multi Channel In". I should be seeing Dolby Digital at the very least. Some stations show AC3 and I do get Dolby Digital there. On My PLEX app with HDMI passthrough enabled that I have installed on the Z8 Pro, I try watching a bluray movie with 5.1 DTS-HD and my Denon only shows "Multi Channel Stereo". If I use my Amazon firestick in place of Z8 Pro it works fine.
Andy.
Oh, and yes, Audio Optimizer is installed. However I would all the audio decoding done by my Denon, NOT the Z8 Pro.

Okay, after some further investigation ... it appears to be working correctly. I downloaded Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master, Atmos/TrueHD 7.1 Dolby video trailers onto a USB thumbdrive. Playing them all using File Manager on the Z8 Pro verified the all audio formats working with HDMI audio set to AUTO.
The issues must be in the apps themselves. Very happy that all video/audio formats are playing through the USB port.
Will have to investigate further with the apps (Plex, Prime Video, etc.)

Great

Can you elaborate or direct me to a thread that specifically deals with Digital Audio from the Z8 pro through an AVR?
My Denon doesn't offer me dynamic compression or loudness control which indicates that it is not seeing any digital audio on the HDMI signal.
Thanks
Doug

Possibly a dumb question but... what is Audio Optimizer?
BTW, the X4400 is a beautiful receiver... a bit out of my price range... but beautiful none the less!

1. Install "Audio Optimizer" from Market and executed once. Restart the box.
2. Set your Audio settings from PCM to Passthrough (RAW)
3. Connect both devices through HDMI ARC (Denon)

Thanks Sam!
It said "audio already optimized" when I tried to run the app. I did it anyway and rebooted it.
I had changed the audio to Raw already, but will have to sort out the ARC aspect. I've not had much stability with ARC on my 710W. I think my ARC HDMI porch might be pooched. I'm thinking of getting the 650H, 750H or the 960H receivers. I really only need 5.2 but do have a Samsung 8k smart TV. Any suggestions on choice? They're all under $1k, but the 960h needs to be special ordered.
Any advice you have would be appreciated! Thanks Doug

Ok, then are all codecs installed. The app install and execute can fix some issues if this exist.

I don`t know how your denon is set, check all settings again and do firmware update to latest version. I have the H6400 connected with ARC to TV LG HDMI ARC Port 2 and Formuler to TV HDMI 3 . The TV passthrough all from Formuler to Denon.
Formuler Audio settings:
- Formuler set to HDMI Output "Auto", ( Set to RAW in your case).
- Disable USB audio routing
- HBR Degrade Output "Auto" (change to 5.1 in your case).

Depends all from you wallet and what you need. The middle is in most cases the best choice, because Denon`s series are all very good.
