Is it supposed to serve as the input button to your TV if programmed correctly?
You can basically program it with any button you like, try again it should work if you bring the remotes very close to each other. I also had issues but eventually it works after the second or third time good luck.
Does anyone know what the Source button is to do on the GTV-IR1 remote?
I tried “programming” it with the the Input button on my Sony remote but was unsuccessful.

Yes, Source is same as Input. Just different nomenclature.
If you are unsuccessful with programming, temporarily unplug your TV from mains power first and then try the programming procedure again.
once in button programming mode, try with heads of remotes being about half inch apart.

I was able to get the volume buttons and tv off programming fine. However, the input on the Sony remote and source button on my Formuler remote isn’t linking
