I was excited when I received my new Samsung 4K TV and couldn't wait to connect the box to finally experience how great the viewing would be. Sadly, it isn't possible to watch 4K movie streams. HD streams load and play flawlessly, but 4K streams are choppy at best, and fail to play at worst.
I have tried playing movies with various players; the embedded one, VLC and MX Player Pro - none of them work. I have tested my hard-wired internet speed using the on-board speed tester and get an average of 75Mbps. I have swapped out the HDMI cable with a variety of others with no luck. I have ordered a new 8K/4K HDMI cable and will try that when it arrives.
I have also searched for on-line tutorials to check which settings within VLC might require to be changed. The tutorials I have found could not be followed, as the described menu options are not present in the version that I have on the box.
I have a firestick connected to a 10-years-old LG HD TV, connected via wi-fi and the same 4K streams all work, despite the TV only being able to display in HD.
It may be that there is a menu setting that needs to be changed, but I haven't found it yet. I could use some guidance if anyone has managed to overcome a similar issue.
