    Hi everyone! 👋

    I’d like to introduce you to a small but fine app I’ve developed: KloqTV.

    Have you ever wished for a discreet, always-visible clock on your TV – while watching a series, gaming, or just navigating the menu? That’s exactly what KloqTV does! It’s an always-on-top clock that you can fully customize to your liking.

    Now I want to know if it works smoothly on all devices, so I’d be very happy if you could test it. The app is publicly accessible, and I don’t plan to make money from it. KloqTV was created purely out of joy for technology. I am just a private person.

    Getting Started: Launch the clock in seconds

    The first time, you only need two small steps to allow KloqTV to display over other apps. Don’t worry – it’s really simple!

    Step 1: Launch the app & understand permissions

    When you first open KloqTV, you’ll see the control center. To display the clock, the app needs a special Android permission.

    Step 2: Grant the “Display over other apps” permission

    1. In the app, press the “Start / Apply” button.
    2. Since the permission is missing, the app will automatically guide you to the Android system settings.
    3. You’ll see a list of apps. Find KloqTV and select it.
    4. Enable the toggle to grant permission.
    5. Use the “Back” button on your remote to return to the KloqTV app.

    Step 3: Start the clock!

    Now simply press “Start / Apply” again – done! The clock will appear on your screen with the default settings. 🎉


    The Power of Customization: An overview of all settings

    Inside the app, you can customize everything to your liking. Every change you make is instantly applied to the running clock when you hit “Start / Apply.”

    General Settings

    • Start at system boot: If enabled, the clock automatically starts with the last saved settings when you power on your device.
    • Free move: Activate this option to disable fixed positions. A cross controller appears, allowing you to move the clock pixel-perfectly. Holding down a button will move it continuously!
    • Show seconds: Show or hide seconds in the clock.
    • Show date (digital only): Displays the current date below the clock.
    • Show battery (digital only): Perfect for tablets or mobile devices, displays the battery status.
    • Clock type (digital / analog): Switch between digital and analog view.
    • Burn-in protection (pixel shifting): Highly recommended for OLED screens! This function shifts the clock by a few barely visible pixels every minute should to prevent burn-in.

    Design & Appearance

    • Position: Choose one of the four corners as a fixed position if “Free move” is disabled.
    • Color: Choose from a range of colors for the text (digital) or hands and dial (analog).
    • Font & style (digital only): Personalize your digital clock with different fonts and options for bold or italic.
    • Background transparency: Use the slider to adjust the visibility of the small black background behind the clock. All the way left makes it fully invisible.
    • Size: Use the “+” and “–” buttons to make the clock larger or smaller until it fits perfectly.

    I have KloqTV installed as a tester,and are perfectly happy with it!

    As it is now Official,do you advice me to reinstall it from Playstore,or can i leave it as it is?:smiling_face:

    henkie Google says you should reinstall the app after leaving the beta. However, I disabled the beta and on play store for all tester. On my devices, it worked without reinstalling. The latest version was installed automatically, and the app no longer shows as beta on the device.

    Falcon-G Yes, it should work as long as it runs on Android. I developed it for Android TV, phones, and tablets. At the moment, it runs on around 20,000 kind of devices via the Play Store (Android 8 and higher). At some point, I might also release the APK if you’d like, but I’d definitely prefer the Play Store since it’s safer and more reliable.

    Falcon-G I didn’t even think about it – there are also other/alternative app stores. Should I maybe look into adding it there as well at some point? Would there be any interest in that?

    Bad news Falcon-G : The Amazon Appstore for Android smartphones and tablets was shut down on August 20, 2025, so no new apps are available there anymore.

    Hi Richi,

    I'm testing your App on my Z11 Pro. Good job!!

    A couple of observations from an old man. By the way, since my eyesight is not what it used to be, I'm using the old 'Legacy' remote 02F9. Perhaps the NEW GTV 3 remote will solve my problems (if it works with Z11's)!

    • For the dialogue switches that are ON/OFF, it might be better if the OFF position is grey instead of orange. I understand that 'to the right' is ON, but some may be confused.
    • I understand what the 'Start/Apply' button does and I understand that the 'Stop' button stops the App (clock disappears). However, some users may be a bit confused at the end of the process (after Apply). I used the 'Back' button to exit the App, but perhaps there should be an 'EXIT' button?
    • Similarly, perhaps the 'Start/Apply' button should be shown as 'Start/Apply/Show Clock'? Perhaps 'Stop' should be shown as 'Stop/Hide Clock'?

    • For my remote, when the 'Language' button at the bottom is selected, the orange radio button does not move down or up when I used the down or up arrows on the remote. I made the mistake of holding down the down button and nothing seemed to happen. Pushing the OK button selected Portuguese (panic!!). It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get back to the 'System Default' selection.

      I did then confirm that three 'down' button presses and 'OK' indeed set Deutsch & three 'up' button presses and 'OK' returned me to 'System Default'. Perhaps each time the down button is selected the associated language should be 'bolded' to see where you are in the list?

    All these are just observations - this App is quite nice otherwise!

    Cottageboy Thank you for testing! I’ll leave the design and button names as they are for now, but I’ll keep them in mind.

    Regarding the language selection: normally, when navigating through the list, a grey highlight should move along with the selection. Apparently, this doesn’t work correctly on all devices. I’ve already noticed similar issues in the main menu on certain devices. I’ll need to find another solution for that.

    Here’s how it looks on my Z11 (see picture).

    A new update is on the way – but it may take a little while before it’s rolled out. (V20 (1.2.0))

    1. Autostart behavior improved: Previously, issues could occur if the launcher was “in a bad mood” or the Google account was not properly connected. This has now been fixed.
    2. 24h/12h (AM/PM) option: You can now choose whether the clock is displayed in 24-hour format or in 12-hour format with AM/PM. Falcon-G
    3. Language selection updated: The language selection window has been visually aligned with the rest of the menu. In addition, the app now takes over most of the control of the language selection view itself.

    Richi. --- on the fire TV platform it does not allow OVERLAY PERMISSION. And seems like no way to do that. Do you know of an ADP command series to force allow that? I can get into ADP but do not know how to fix permissions of apps while doing that.

    By the way your link worked and I loaded it on both a FIRE CUBE 2, and a FIRE STICK 4K MAX.

    Since I’ve always been used to the 24-hour format, I initially only displayed the time in 12-hour format without AM/PM. Later, I asked an AI how it’s usually done in other TV apps and what English-speaking users prefer. The clear answer was: with AM/PM shown after the time.

    So, I implemented it accordingly. Personally, I’m not too thrilled about the look of it. The longer I watch the time with AM/PM displayed, the more I feel it would have been better to just show the time without it.

    What do you think?
    I also considered making the AM/PM part smaller, but shrinking the time display could cause layout issues.

    henkie In the latest version, you can now choose between the 24-hour and 12-hour format. For example, it will show either "19:01" or "7:01 PM". Personally, I find the version with “PM” at the end a bit too long, but I’m not sure what users actually prefer. To me, "7:01" would look more elegant, since on TV you usually already know whether it’s AM or PM.

    That was my mistake — I accidentally copied in the wrong language. I’ll correct it in the next update.

    Yes, I did that, but I made another mistake with the language selection. Apparently, Google is again only delivering the system language and English. I must have accidentally used an older setup. I’ve already had this issue once before. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice it during testing, since the APK contains all the language files. A fix will come in the next update. Sorry about that!

    Hi Rich,

    I can't speak for everyone that are accustomed to the a.m./p.m. format, but I'm sure that many don't really need to see the AM/PM suffix (unless you are setting an alarm clock).

    I generally know when '3:45' is, regardless of whether or not I can see the AM/PM suffix (one '3:45' is in the 'light' part of the day - when I'm often awake, and the other '3:45' is in the 'dark' part of the day :winking_face: - when I'm supposed to be asleep).

    Keep up the great work! My wife REALLY likes this new App on the TV! As an aside, I'm EX military so a 24 hour clock is nothing new to me.

    I just noticed that the app doesn’t run on the Z10 Pro Max, since you can’t grant the permission to display over other apps. Does anyone have an idea how to enable this without using ADB? Maybe something that can be unlocked in Developer Mode? Or is there another trick to get around this?
