  • I have seen previous threads on this but I did not see a fix posted anywhere...

My formuler 7 z+ won't turn on from what I guess people call "stand by" as the indication light is always red even when I try and power it on via the remote.

I saw a post about a loader but cannot find the file or instructions to download it. Even then, how can I fix something that won't even turn on?

This is my second 7 z+, first never got past the welcome screen, now this... sigh

  • Instead of starting a new thread or topic I'll just add to here being as I am having this issue

I'm a reseller of Formuler devices.

I had a customer bring back a Z7+ ( external wifi model ) and buyer told me it just would no longer power on.

red light is on, I've tried power supply from a new in box unit. Nothing.

How do I hard reset or factory restore this device ? Where is the factory firmware AND how do I bring it to restore mode ?

    Need info asap plz.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

please download this tool and do factory reset ->

  • Can be used for Zx, Z7+ and S Turbo +S Mini. Sorry but there no other files. If you have Z7+ this tool should work.

  • Hi!

I have the same issue, one day it just wouldnt start, only shows red light on the device. I've tried to change batteries, removed power cable, plugged in the extra IR eye, no memory cards or sticks is connected.

The device shows no indication when using the remote but remote is flashing, so i've tried this factory reset but when the device isn't talking with my remote i can't get it to boot it seems.

I've tried to connect the remote with my tv remote "source" and it responded when using them against each other, so i guess it's the device thats broken?

No clue what do to next.

  • This seems like a checksum file ? Not sure how it can bring the device into boot mode without an actual boot file to wake the device up. This file does nothing for me, does not wake the box at all.. My customer just wants to order a new box off Amazon Prime and send this one back a few days later so the company can deal with it. Generally I try and discourage this behavior, but she's tired of my loaner device and wants the box she paid for. Makes no sense that a dealer can't get a boot rom file to fix a device that could be easily fixed, or so I would think it could be. I've written ROMs to more boxes than I can count, every other company I sell for, i.e. Zoomtak, Beelink, Global Media, and my bestsellers BuzzTv ALL provide me with the tools I need to keep devices working. The customer had this box for 1 week and then one day it just doesn't boot up.

Baffles me why there is no reset button on this device, unless it's hidden on the board, and I have yet to crack this open to see if it's in there, and was hoping to NOT have to that due to the warranty terms.

  • Hi

I have this same issue and cannot find away to get the box to boot up. It just won’t come on so I cannot even get to factory settings. Anyone had any success in fixing this?

  • Starting from Firmware version 1.2.71, all Z7+ and Zx series devices support the following reset method:

    Built-in Factory Reset: Destructive

**Factory resetting the device will delete all user data and restore the system back to factory state.

    1. Remove power from the device.

    2. Re-insert power WHILE simultaneously rapidly pressing the red button on the remote

    3. The front status light will start to blink red and green.

    4. Stop pressing the red button

    5. Press 1 on the remote and wait for the reset procedure to complete

This built-in method is more convenient and does not require the use of the USB file.

The USB file method also works if needed (if firmware version cannot be determined)

  • I got the exact same issue, solid red light on boot, no video signal. Placed the file on a fat32 formatted usb stick and followed the instructions, ie plug in usb stick and attach power while pressing CH-UP on remote(not holding but continuously pressing). Nothing happens, still nothing on TV and box show solid red light. Tried different usb keys and both usb ports on z7+.

    What more can I try?

I did open it up just to see that nothing looked burned or some visable soldering that was bad but everything looked clean and good.

  • Try the method without file if installed firmware is 1.2.71, like in post over yours.

BTW. check your power supply adapter if damaged, try with another one.

  • I've got the exact same issue. Tried with 2 power supplies, tried different wall outlet, - tried both methods above to recover. Replaced batteries in remote. Still no joy

Just the solid red light when plugged in

    Any ideas?

  • Today I could not turn on the box with the remote control.

The LED flickered when the remote control button was pressed, but did not turn on. Reconnected the plug of the power supply. The box has executed the command to turn on from the remote.

But, I was already excited about this behavior of the box.

Until the last update, this was not.

  • So you simply turned it off and turned it back on? That resolved it?

    Yes.

In some cases (and on other devices) it helps to completely turn off the power for an indefinite time, so that there is a discharge of all drives (capacitors, etc.) inside the device.

You can also try reconnecting the power supply of the box without disconnecting the plug, but reconnecting the power supply in a 220V outlet. So to speak, give a kick to the box (transients in power circuits).

  • Same issue. This is weird that so many are having the same issue. How do I go about returning this brick?

The USB file load does not work (nothing happens. Formatted USB stick to Fat 32 and placed the file on the root)

Tried another USB stick - no joy

Tried the red button tap to restore - no joy

Tried a different IR receiver - no joy

Tried two different PSU's - no joy

Tried different wall socket - no joy

Replaced batteries in remote (red flashing light on remote showing it is working)

left unplugged for over an hour - powered on via plug socket - no joy.

Any other ideas before returning it?

  • Exactly the same as madstag, tried every possible way described in this thread to reset it without any luck and replacing every hw part that are replaceable.

Not bought locally so no way to return it, I guess if no one has any idea I will just have to throw it in the trash and move on to another brand.

  • I have the same problem with 2 differents formuler zx.

This problem should able to be repair with a hardware method, I have seen this for z+

It will be great to know if it should be possible with zx of z7.

I have opened the zx but I can't find the same reference in the pcb.

If someone from Formuler knows the solution.

    Thanks

  • Long time ago (3 years ago) was some problem with brick and therefore was this video made. Since then Formuler improved the bootloader that such things doesn`t happen again. How ever there are no 100% Guarantee that this can never happen, but it should not. If you have problem with the box, you have only the possibility to factory reset the device in two ways, see our articles. If the box is bricked or damaged, contact your seller and let the box repair with official way.

  • Don`t know how much the repair costs are but it is worth to ask.

  • This week my Z7+ turned into a brick. I've also tried all the tricks in this post and others... still giving me the red light of dead.

Before I buy a new Formuler box (z10 se) I'm willing to try the hardware reset by following the youtube video mentioned here on this thread.

When I turn the board on, it reads from the USB, I see blinking lights shining on the pen and that gives me confidence that the board can read the usb.
Still the board is different from the one in the video, but I found the jumper (R42 Jumper underneath the heat dissipator).
    uc?id=1OC23mt9u3Vq0IK41uHOOtA7uE4WBfPWW&export=download
Still I cannot find the recovery.zip file mentioned in the video, that zip contains the files that I must add to the pen drive in order to boot and update firmware:

    • bootargs.bin
    • recovery.img
    • update.ird (this one I can obtain from the Formuler_Sz7_Factory_Reset_Tool)

Any ideas where to get those files?
    Thanks in advance

  • I can help you only with this tool, works also with Z7. Such files like in your post are files from box repair services.
