Recording and local timeshift only works with external storage attached and will always by default write to the external storage.

up until sometime ago timeshift worked ok, but went to try yesterday and somehow it gives me error, I have changed HDD/USB but still not working
any ideas?
What filesystem format do you use? In my experience NTFS is the most stable.
How much free space is available?
Can you access files on it via the Z8 file explorer app?

The error I get is (It cannot play this file please try later)
HDD file system is indeed NTFS and I have plenty of free space
I can access files and it shows the timeshift video I was trying to play,
It records OK and playback as well,
How do you shutdown your Z8? Standby or poweroff? Have you tried restarting?
And are you on the latest versions?

This message comes in most cases if catch up is in use (server timeshift) and not local timeshift. For server timeshift is local USB hdd not necessary, for local it is necessary. What exactly are you meaning, server or local timeshift?

You can also delete cache from MOL2 App: Home menu -> Settings -> Apps
