After latest Z8 firmware I see it has been reported that after the latest firmware upgrade 1.4.71 we get a message from our AVR Receiver saying we are not fully DPDP 2.2 compatible. I do not want to plug in directly to my TV because I would lose the ability to drive my external speakers from my receiver.
In my case this is happening because my TV is an older model. Now, I know I can get an HDMI converter to change back the Z8 HDMI output to HDCP1.4 but I would prefer a firmware fix please...

The thing is, there is no bug on Formuler’s end. I’ve already explained it elsewhere on this forum, so I’m not gonna do it here again. Log story short: if one device in your chain does support DHCP2.2, but your output device (i.e. your TV) doesn’t, then it won’t work on 2.2. This is because the Z8 and your AVR will see one another as 2.2 and will negotiate a handshake on that version of the protocol. Then your TV can’t do anything with it, because the two versions of DHCP are inherently incompatible. Whoever devised HDCP should have thought of situations like this. Because the Formuler boxes are by no means the only devices that have to deal with this. It’s just that any TV older than 2010 (with a bit of luck) will not work with DHCP2 because it’s too new-fangled for them.
