  • Dear Support, Good day

I have recently bought the GTV and am fully satisfied with the performance.

I’m returning user from other Linux receiver and was using an external 500GB hard disk as Media Storage.

I have attached the Hard Disk with GTV as “Removable Storage” and it is working.

I want to know how I can copy my media files (Movies, Music) via ftp or any other means to hard disk.

Removing Hard disk copy the data and re-attach with GTV is not practical.

  • Use app "File Commander" from Google Play Store on your GTV

    Hi Thanks for reply

    let me elobarte.

I dont want file commander to conenct to any ftp.

i want GTV to have a an option (e.g. act as a FTP sever) so i could access it from PC and simply copy my contenst to it.

  • Thanks for elaborating. I don't have any more ideas about FTP server on GTV.

Anecdotally, you can start an FTP server on the device using "ES File Explorer" but I heard it doesn't allow access to external drives.

Unless there is some strict requirement that you need to copy the files to the HDD that is connected to the GTV, you should consider mounting your PC's shared folder to the GTV using SMB to accomplish what you need.

GTV > Android Settings > Device Prefs. > Storage > Network Storage

  • Dear All,

I have tried different File explorer which comes with Built in “Wi-Fi File Transfer” and “FTP server” option, I can copy/upload to internal storage of GTV however uploading to External Hard disk always fails.

I have tried External Hard disk in both mode as “ Device Storage” and “Removable Storage”

    Kindly help.

  • Additional Info:

Even I am unable to copy anything using any of explorer from Device Internal Memory to External Hard disk in both “ Device Storage” and “Removable Storage” modes

GTV > Android Settings > Device Prefs. > Storage > Network Storage

Can you show us how this is done on a windows pc? Thanks.

  • Can you show us how this is done on a windows pc? Thanks.

Can only speak for Windows 10.

Below is the "easy" and insecure way to do it.

I haven't tried the "secure" way to do it.

    1. Open Network and Sharing Center > All Networks > Turn off Password Protected Sharing
    2. Right click the folder you want to share.
    3. Open the sharing tab. Click the "Share..." button. Add user "Guest" with no quotes.
    4. Write down the Network Path of the shared folder.
    5. example: \\yourPCname\Users\username\Documents\sharedFolderName
    6. Open Network Storage menu on the Formuler
    7. Add a Storage
    8. Network path is the Network path from step 5 EXCEPT you MUST type it in using forward slashes AND
    9. You MUST replace the yourPCname with the IPv4 address (ip address) of your PC
    10. example //ipv4.address.of.pc/Users/username/Documents/sharedFolderName
    11. Leave username/password blank

Unsolicited PMs for support will be ignored.

Duplicate support requests to the forums and helpdesk will be ignored.

Finally I got it to work, thank you !

  • Conclusion:

GTV doesn’t permit to write on USB connected storage, instead seems it has “read only” permissions.

I have connected my external Hard Disk on USB of Broadband router and Enabled SMB which I can access from GTV

same time I have Enable ftp too which makes very easy to copy media contents from any PC on network.
