  • Hi! I gave a 1 GB connection at home and on my PC i get 940 MB, on PS5 i get 880MB but... with the same cable (cat8) i get 500 MB speed on Z8 Pro?

I tested several times, different times of day, with the speedtest and nperf app´s (not the browser).

I followed the tutorial with the static IP, same result.

I have the connection on Full Duplex on the router.

I can´t think of anything more besides a faulty port maybe? But then again, if it´s faulty... it shouldn´t each the 500 MB connection right?

I know it´s not important for IPTV, but i would like to have the full capacity of my connection...

  • Gigabit is the theoretical maximum speed. could factors can influence to the speed including which test app u are connecting.

u can try the following speed test apps from market

    -speedtest. net -test.com -analiti - nperf.com

Is, of course, i understand that. Still... to get 940 on PC, 880 on PS5 and only 500 on the Formuler, is a big difference.

I tried speedtest and nperf both apps, not browser. Going to try the analiti but im pretty sure the result would be the same.

I see a lot of similar threads around in other forums, and i really don´t see many people who can actually get 700 or 800 MB connection on a Gigabit connection on the Formuler... i would say that there is something in the software or hardware of the box that just doesn´t let the connection get to those values...

  • Literally there will be no problem even if only 100mb with.

But if the device offer the 1Gb , they would like to get that speed.

there will be many factors that the device cannnot get up to 1GB. Cause set top box is not a high-end product like pc or notebook.

  • seems to be comon problem I've seen loads of threads saying the same thing, personaly I don't feel the ethernet port is optimised very good,my speed tests are very inconsistent, its the only device I have and I have loads that have this problem,it's OK telling him don't worry because he,s only getting 500mb but if there is a real problem with the ethernet port it could be causing other issues

Yeah, maybe it´s just that, Formuler Z8 Pro it´s not a high-end product like pc or notebook and can´t reach high speeds like PC or a PS5.

I totaly accept that but if that is the case, maybe there should be a disclaimer or something like, this does have a gigabit port but the box it´s only capable of around half that speed.

My Z8 pro is running on a 9mb connection and preforms perfectly.

Are you having performance issues at 500mb?

No, of course not. It´s not a performance issue, i would like to know for sure why it does not reach the same speed as PC or a PS5.

It´s just curiosity really, since all the things i have with a gigabit connection reach really high speeds in the 900 Mbs range, but Formuler doesn´t pass the 510 Mbs.

    In a nut shell......

Probably asking to much of a $30 SBC (Single Board Computer)

Haven't peeked around this board so not sure what board it's using, but typically........

These boards are based on a SoC (System on a Chip)

They do not have dedicated controllers like a PC would have a dedicated

Ethernet controller where as this board would have the Ethernet controller

    built into the SoC

I'm sure the SoC ethernet controller is a "gigabit" controller but.....

The data has to get from the Ethernet port on the bus to the SoC controller via the Bus

Not sure what bus this board has on it, but let's assume it's a single lane PCIe V2 bus.

The theoretical maximum through put on PCIe V2 (single lane) would be around 500mps

Which would mean 1gig data through put would be saturating the bus around 500mps.

Also depends on what other devices are on the bus and active. Like the USB ports etc.

Moving to newer boards might get you something like a PCIe V3 bus, They keep improving

them while maintaining price points. Maybe the next gen Z10? has upgraded bus, like PCIe V3

which would get you up to the 1gig bus through put.

I'm sure your issue is bus related.

PC's have dedicated ethernet controllers and faster multi-lane buses.

  • Try to set a static ip on the box and see if that helps.

    Already did, same thing...

the formuler ain't cheap,my odroid n2 sbc was £65 half the price of my z8 and its giga port works as it should, even my £11 usb giga adaptor I use in my lg b8 works as it should,

Yeah, i had cheaper android boxes that could make full use of the gigabit connection and this Z8 apparently cant...

This is a fantastic answer, thank you! It makes a lot of sense really.

I just did not expect that cheaper Android boxes could perform better, in this aspect of reaching speeds of 800/900 Mb's on ethernet, then a Formuler Z8.

Maybe like you said the new Z10 can, but i havent seen it yet.
