  • After watching the USB tuner video hopefully someone here can answer a few questions

1 - Is anyone using a USB tuner and what kind works well with a Z11 pro max

2 - Can you record via a stick in the USB3 port or does the USB tuner have it's own recording capability

3 - Does it run simultaneously along side a XCApi provider or does one or the other need only be running

  • 1. Supported USB DVB-T2 Tuners

    ATSC USB Tuners:

    - Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q (2040:b123)

    - Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q (2040:b150)

    - Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD (2040:026d)

    DVB-T USB Tuners:

    - Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD (2040:8265)

    - Geniatech MyGica T230 Black (0572:689A)

    - Geniatech OEM T230 White (0572:c68a)

    - Xbox One Digital TV Tuner (045E:02D5)

And yes it works very well if the Antenna is calibrated and get good signal.

    2. Yes, same like Live TV recording and stored at same place.

    3. Both running at same time, you need only to switch the category`s.

  • I used one with the Z11 Pro Max and it was simple to install and looks and works great. As long as you have a good signal, the recording works the same. Just make sure you creat a Favorites for OTA to differentiate.

  • I have the 950Q. and the Z11 Pro Max.

I have downloaded all the drivers and software to my PC

    Activated my account

When I go to set up on my Z11, it doesn't give me the ATSC option to scan

    1. Is all the software on the PC

    2. So there is no need or way to transfer the software to the TV tuner

    Please advise

  • I do wonder about these USB tuners & just how well they perform. I also wonder if any odd branded usb tuners would work on our Formuler devices. I do believe that these 2 both do have dual tuners, although I don't believe either one has ATSC 3.0 capability. Just to pass this along for those that would be interested I have an HD Homerun 4K Flex tuner (2-1.0, 2-3.0) 4 tuner capability. I have the Z11 Pro Max but surely the Pro would work just as well. I downloaded the HD Homerun app & it works great to watch my local channels using this app, but also I have Plex lifetime subscription & have the Plex app installed also. The HD Homerun app does have to be on the exact same network as the box to receive channels, but works great if one is interested in going that route. I can't speak for the USB tuners as I have never used one for their sensitivity of those, but the HD Homerun 4K Flex works great for reception. I have a situation here that causes me some huge overloading problems. Many of my stations are very close and in the UHF bands, but I have some weaker stations I can receive that are in the VHF bands. Using a strictly VHF designed antenna & pointing it off of direct pointing to tower some & using a channel master 7779 preamp it works great to receive them all without overloading on the strong stations. 3 stations are 1,000kw & one is 665kw 4 aerial miles out so it's a huge issue to deal with. The preamp really does well to get the weak stations even with antenna pointed about 70 degrees off of the broadcast towers using it on low gain setting to keep from the overloading. This keeps all working great. I do highly recommend this tuner for anyone who wants a great working tuner. My Sling AirTv Anywhere tuner isn't as good in sensitivity as the 4K Flex although it does work pretty well. For any of you that want to know which tv is best for antenna reception my Sony is better than anything I have ever owned to date. Without the preamp my Sony will out do the 4K Flex for reception. I do wish the 200.00 price tag would come down though. I would love to hear about anyone that has used any USB tuner to hear about the results weather it's one of the 2 Hauppauge tuners that do work or a side brand that works & which model & how well it performs, especially for reception. Although I see only the 2 are said to work I believe there are more that will work on the Z11. There is an off branded USB tuner that has 3.0 capability for 50 bucks with it's own app on Amazon, but it is unknown if and how well it would work on the Z11.

UPDATE 12/27/2024: Upon trying a GT Media USB 3.0 tuner I can confirm that this particular model will NOT work through the Mytvonline3 app. I am reasonably sure that Formuler is locking out other brands besides the Hauppauge models that are recognized by the device. It will however work on the Formuler Z11 Pro Max I have using the app they have available for download. Although it's not the best & has many odd negative issues it does work for the most part. I did encounter a huge problem using it on my Formuler though. NONE of the SD channels will work at all, only audio as the video is scrambled, but all the HD channels do work with exception to my local NBC 12 stations HD channel. It is scrambled just like the SD channels. Upon hooking it up to my Kinhank G1 box it worked on all channels, but the SD channels had a sort of horizontal lines issue that is visual but not really too disturbing. I have absolutely NO clue what is causing all the trouble at all. I tried to disable developer options among some other slight adjustments but it still refused to decode the SD channels video. When I questioned the Hong Kong Phooey people that made it which video decoder it uses (not once but 3 times) I never got an answer. I would be grateful to anyone who has any ideas on this as to what might fix the problem. My last message to them to this moment is unanswered which was sent on 12/16/2024 after I diagnosed all I could about the working/non working channels. This shows all of you the lack of caring from these people about their devices. I did see info on disabling the developer options before installing their app which I did do on the Formuler with no change in result, but the G1 box had developer options enabled when I installed the app on it & all the channels still work. The person from the company that I spoke with tried to say the G1 processor has more codecs available/workable for it than the Formuler Z11 box which I don't see ANY proof of that. From my research I have done there isn't really much of a difference at all between the Realtek RTD1319C in the Formuler than the Amlogic S905X4-J from what I can find. The Formulers CPU is slower (1.4 vs 2.0) but the GPU more than makes up for it with far faster processing. I do wonder though if the G-57 Mali is possibly causing some conflict in the video decoding. I have installed just about every video decoder I could to help see if any one of them would be seen by the app & make the connection possibly to remedy the issue but no go. The learning curve still continues.

  • I've been using the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q USB ATSC adapters on my Z8's and Z11 Pro Max's for several years without any issues. I like the way the Formulers are able to integrate OTA and streaming channels in my Favorites list. I use the USB 2.0 ports for OTA ATSC and leave the USB 3.0 port for recording.

  • Here is another question for everyone. Does the Hauppauge WinTv Dual Tuner actually record one off air channel while watching another channel? It appears the 955Q only is one tuner so if this is true then the dual tuner would be the best one to purchase. I most likely will purchase the WinTv dual tuner with the ability of doing 2 tuners anyhow. Sad that Hauppauge doesn't have a 3.0 version available for purchase.

Wish I knew the answer to this one. Unfortunately I've never used the dual tuner before. It is a cool idea and hopefully Formuler supports dual OTA tuners.

Yes. IIRC the Dual Tuner model can record a channel from one transponder and watch another channel from a different OTA transponder.

With the single tuner models you can also watch one and record another channel but only on the same transponder.

  • I now have the WinTv Dual tv USB tuner & it works pretty well. Reception is very good for this mini gadget, and although guide is minimal with only the next couple of hours of what's on it is fairly decent, but missing some. I have run in to another problem that I believe I know why it's going on. I can pick up my local low powered channel 9 using windows software that Hauppauge provides, but on My Z11 Pro Max it won't be seen. It has 70% signal with 32-35 SNR so it's plenty strong enough but I believe I have figured out why this is happening. This also tells me the guide info is different from what Hauppauge uses in Windows & what is used in the Mytvonline3 app. If Sam knows anything about this I would love to know what guide the device uses within the Mytvonline3 app. I believe the issue is it is using a different guide than Hauppauge does use on windows, but their support through chat they would not tell me which guide it uses. I have Plex lifetime subscription & I am well aware it uses Gracenote for it's guide. This channel 9 I receive won't show up in their guide at all for Plex but will substitute an NBC channel 9 out of Gainesville which I never could come close to receiving here in Jacksonville, but still a plus since it does see the channel is there & applies something to it. Also there is a very new channel 26 here that both Windows & Mytvonline3 will not see although I have decent signal for it. This all has me wondering if there is any way to add/change the guide within the Mytvonline3 app to get channels seen that I know are there & strong of signal. I don't see any way to manually add channels at all. Using Plex has proven to me that if the guide isn't aware of the channel & has it in it's listings it won't show up on the device scans no matter how strong the signal is. If the Mytvonline3 app is using that sucky Gracenote for the guide that explains it all. I personally informed Gracenote well over a year ago & they still have never put this channel 9 in to their list. It has existed here for many years & is not available anywhere else to watch.

  • MYTVOnline3 (MOL3) does not supplement ATSC guide data using online sources. The guide data contained in the transport stream (PSIP) is the only source of guide (EPG) data that can be displayed in MOL3.

The new channel (26) may be an ATSC 3.0 (NextGen TV) channel. If this is the case, your existing tuner probably doesn't have the capability to tune it.

  • So your saying that the guide data is inserted within the channel itself being broadcast. I have noticed sometimes the guide won't work until I actually pull up the channel & run it for a bit, then it will get the guide so this does make sense to me. I have noted this since that last writing. Channel 26 is a low powered station broadcasting 1.0 ATSC. It is very new, but apparently doesn't have any guide info within it, although it does pick up the channels. A few others doesn't have guide info either, Start channel for example doesn't have anything. My Channel 9 not showing up is nonsense really with such strong signal especially since it is a VHF broadcasting station & I am using a dedicated VHF antenna. Plex using Gracenote doesn't see the station as it's true entity, but does fudge it in as channel 9 out of Gainesville, so it's aware of the station but brain damaged to realize it's true call letters & that it's a Jacksonville station. It will pick up this channel through windows when scanned, but not on android, which proves there is some kind of problem using android to cause it to not be recognized. On a side note I also wonder if older versions of Hauppauge USB tuners will work on the Formuler besides the two (955Q & Wintv dual tuner) to be recognized by the Z11. If any of you out there has tried this with older models I would love to hear the results, & how well they function on stations compared to the newer model Hauppauge tuners. I am totally clueless as to why CH. 9 won't show up on android. Signal is certainly NOT a factor.

  • It will pick up this channel through windows when scanned, but not on android

Get the frequency data of the channel from the windows app.

Try to perform a manual scan of this frequency using MYTVOnline 3

  • I have a Hauppauge 950Q USB tuner and trying to get it to work on my Pro Max Z10, but it is not recognizing it. Will the Hauppauge USB tuners work with the Z10? The 950Q is virtually the same tuner as the 955Q, but it seems the only difference in the two is it has a more mature kernel for LINUX than the 955Q.
I guess I am asking if the Z10 can handle an external USB tuner?

  • This are supported Tuner for Z10/Z11:

    ATSC USB Tuners:
    - Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q (2040:b123)
    - Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q (2040:b150)
    - Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD (2040:026d)

    DVB-T USB Tuners:
    - Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD (2040:8265)
    - Geniatech MyGica T230 Black (0572:689A)
    - Geniatech OEM T230 White (0572:c68a)

    - Xbox One Digital TV Tuner (045E:02D5)

  • The tuner on the list are tested and are compatible, other untested tuner get not on the list. Some other Tuner can work but there is no guarantee for that.
