  • So i notice random flickers/glitch/blip in the display. It is not the hdmi cable or hdmi input port on the tv.

Problem has been documented using 2 different hdmi cables. 1 that comes wuth z12 ultra from the factory and also another very high quality 8k cable. Also happens on multiple hdmi inputs on back of tv so its not hdmi tv port input related. Doesnt matter what is being displayed from the box as it happens when watching live tv… vod… even the home screen.

Attached is a few photos i took with the phone and then snapshot of the glitch. First image is not too obvious as it looks out of focus. But it is not. It is a glitch. 2nd and 3rd photo more obvious.

  • Hdmi handshake doenst look good.

Can you check other hdmi port in tv?

Use original hdmi cable and have a look at screen settings in android settings.

Do you live in europe country? Or usa?

I checked 3 different hdmi ports in the tv input. Im in the usa. I confirmed it using the hdmi cable that comes with the formuler and my own cable. There is no issues when using my shields with either of these cables and either of the tv inputs.

Here is the cable i use.

  • Set correct resolution for your TV and area 50HZ EU or 60HZ NA and try again.

How do i set the resolution and to what??

So you want me to take the z12 display mode off auto? And put it to 4k60? Im in the usa.

Im in the usa and here are my tv specs

  • Check in android settings (cogwheel upper right corner)?, device Preferences, display and sound, screen resolution, and test there some options please.

Display mode, (from auto to other setting)

color space settings, try an other option. 10 bit or so?

Hdr output mode in display and sound to: adaptive!! or try off.

    Hdcp from 2.2 to 1.4?

    Image settings: everything 50%

    Hopefully you find a solution.

    Goodday my friend

  • Appreciate yoyr help and reply.

No i havnt messed around with any of that. Im not a tv tuner or avs tech so i dont really know what to mess with and dont want to make anything worse. I can do some things but im not a developer. Im happy with the picture now but that flutter is def annoying. Even my wife saw it and was like whats going on.

Im comming from shield tvs and i never had to touch any of that. Ive had 4 shields on 4 different tvs since 2017 and never saw this happen. I kinda feel like it should adjust itself to what it needs.

  • 4k 60HZ is right for you.

BTW. You should also enable for each hdmi port on Oled TV-> extended deep colour in TV menu to have with 4k better picture.

Seems like i spoke to soon on the subject. I am still getting this after changing to 4k 60hz. Extended deep color is already enabled but samsung calls it something different.

A reminder… this happens on different hdmi inputs to the tv. So its not the hdmi port. Also this happens with different hdmi cables so its not the cable. Please advise. Should i swap for another z12 ultra?

in Display mode, (from auto to other setting)

In Color Space Settings an other option. 10BIT is the max for your tv! So if it's 12bit, change it to 10 bit.

Hdr output mode in display and sound to: adaptive!! (or try off)

If you have warrenty, reset box and sent it back for new one.

  • So inside display mode… i already went from auto to 4k 60hz ( current setting ) per SAM recommendation. Also per his recommendation extend deep color mode was already enabled. Its called INPUT SIGNAL PLUS on my Samsung S90F TV……… ..STILL have the issue. The Z12 hdmi output goes to the TV hdmi input #2.

My color spacing is set to AUTO. You recommend 10 bit but which one as there are 2 10bit listed.

Also HDR Output Mode is set to Adaptive. You recommend trying to off. Why would i want that off tho?

I order another z12 ultra to try and see if i get the same issue. If this is a simple settings issue that can be figured out… i may keep both as i need another one for the other room. If its a hardware issue per the z12 ultra..i will send it back and just keep the new one.

  • Hi so while watching tv it keeps going back to developer options to turn off but it's off. But keeps kicking me out of mytvoline4 back to developer options.

    Wrong topic, can happen.

Anyway, try turn it back on and look if usb debugging is off.

And turn it off developers mode again.

then remove cache from mol4 and reboot device.

  • Lucky133  SAM this is a software/setting issue. This is a BRAND NEW OPEN AND UPADATED z12 ultra. NO SETTINGS HAVE BEEN TOUCHED OR CHANGED. This is the hdmi cable that comes with z12 in a totally different hdmi input in back of the tv. Same result as original. Look at the bottom under the apps in the photo.

Looks to me a hdmi handshake or other ploblem.

F_Peter and team: can you think this about this?

add all (new) samsung tv users: who has this more? Who knows about samsung tv's settings?

  • We have a few Samsung TVs here, but couldn't reproduce the issue.

I suspect it could be a hardware issue with the HDMI port on the Z12 Ultra.

If you can find another TV to test it on, please test with it.

Otherwise, I suggest you check with the seller for further inspection on the device.

This is his 2nd brand new Z12. Today came it. He used original cable and plugged all in on his samsung tv and AGAIN strange colors.

@all (new) samsung tv users: who's had this problem with the Z12 and fixed?

skillzo1: try to reset your Samsung tv to factory settings. With the z12 ON! Maby after factory reset tv gives a good hdmi handshake because you left your z12 on! Check this google search link!

  • I appreciate your links but to be clear my tv does not have any strange colors or issues. I might add that neither of my two Samsung tvs have any issues at all. The only issue is now two of the formuler z12 boxes. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE AND ITS RELATED TO THESE BOXES. THE ISSUE IS ONLY THE GLITCH WHICH IS WHAT THIS TOPIC IS ABOUT AND SHOWN IN THE PICTURES ABOVE. I ALSO PROVIDED SHORT VIDEOS. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH ANY COLORS OR ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THEN THE RANDOM GLITCH THAT IS SHOWN. This glitch happens for a split second. It is completely random. I may see it then not see it for days. Then see it and hopfully i can and try to get a video of it. The images shown are screen shots of recorded videos that i had to slow down in playback to catch. It randomly happens quickly then everything is fine until it happens randomly again. Please click on the photo below to see. Please note the photo below is shortened and on LOOP. Nothing is wrong with the colors as u can see.

Im not going to reset my tv settings completly. My tv is calibrated professionally and if i reset my tv im going to lose that $300 callibration. I can however hard power cycle the tv. This should fix handshake issues. It seems odd that with 2 different high end hdmi cables, on 4 different tv 2.1 hdmi input ports, and 2 different z12 boxes that there would be handshake issues. Only with these boxes there are issues. Something isnt adding up.

I might add… i have zero issues with anything else plugged into those hdmi input ports on the tv. In those ports are normally a nvidia shield tv pro and the other a Playstation 5. ZERO HANDSHAKE ISSUES, ZERO PORT ISSUES, ZERO HDMI CABLE ISSUES, ZERO SIGNAL ISSUES. ZERO ISSUES IN GENERAL. Only the formuler boxes have this issue. The TV is NOT telling me there is any type of signal issue.

I will also try this on another high end samsung tv. Samsung S90D 65 here in usa. Also running Nvidia Shield Tv Pro with zero issues. Both tv are qd-oled hdr10+ refresh rate 120hz.

If i/we can solve this issue i will keep both Z12 ultra boxes ( $500+ ) as i need both. One for S90F and one for S90D. If not i will have to return both as i have no issues like this with any of my 4 nvidia shield tv pros.

Shield tv pro does not support hdr10+. This is only reason i purchased the z12 ultra because it supports that format. I need that to take advantage of both my higher end samsung tvs.

I want to thank you for the help on the issue 🤝 and trying to solve it.

May i ask what tv? Are any of them s90f qd oled. Hdr10+ 120hz refresh rate?

I will try on another tv with similar specs to my s90f. Samsung s90d. Same tv as the 90f just 1 year older.
