Z8 Recording

Anyone know why I cannot record to a USB hard drive please. Recording works on the smaller SD card in the other USB slot, so why not on my hard drive

I'm quite confused. I have connected an SD card (formatted as per your instructions) to extend internal space so I can move apps to it. I have a USB hard drive connected solely for recordings. When I go into Mytvonline "recording" section it asks which device I want to use and I choose hard drive. I have just recorded a program which had the times showing in the top right hand corner, so it was recording. Now it finished, I look in recordings and nothing is on the hard drive or in fact the side card. In fact its gone back to aslill ng me which drvice I wang to use for storing and reading data.

Are you saying I should disconnect say the hard drive and record to only the SD card. If so, why has the device got two USBs ?

Sorry Sam, my bad. The SD card is in a USB adapter. I have just disconnected the hard drive and started a new recording, which I stopped half way through and it said "This will stop the recording which will appear in the recording section". Looked in recordings, nothing there. Even looked in File Manager and there is no recordings folder ?

I did disconnect the power before taking out the hard drive and swoping the sd card/adapter over to USB 3.

As said, when I stop recording it just sat Warning Empty Recording Files.

So it makes no difference having just one device installed.

I must say, that recording has worked on a few past occasions but I "think" that has been when while watching the same channel. Recording from the EPG seems to be the one thats failing.

Both connected, you set EPG recording and do something else, the recording timer starts but nothing was recorded, right? This is because the box don`t know where to save the recording and the confirmation is missing, therefore is nothing saved.

For this config Formuler must implement path where the user can choose device for all recordings without confirmation, is known. With future updates will also come one channel watching and other recording, for now it`s possible only watched Chanel to record.

Thank you Sam, I am pleased you understand part of my problem which will be fixed on the next update.

Meanwhile, having disconnected the USB hard drive I am still having a problem with saving recordings to the sd card/USB adapter on the programs that I am watching. I did NOT eventually format the sd card with Rufus because I had all my apps on it and anyway intended to record to the hard drive (which incidentely I was unable to format with Rufus as it was not covered in the options)

So now I propose to transfer everything from the sd card/USB adapter to temporarily storage on my laptop. Then format sd card with Rufus and transfer the apps etc back onto it. Its a 120GB SD card, so has enough space for recordings until the next update as mention.

Will this help me save recording to the sd card ?

Hi Sam

Firstly I transferred all apps back to internal storage, where I shall keep them.

Had trouble getting laptop to recognise sd card but after formatting in Z8 it was eventually recognized by Windows.

Formatted sd card with Rufus and pleased to say recording is working on same channel as being watched. Also scheduled recording from EPG on same channel succeeded, but started much earlier (12 minutes) than scheduled start. Also able to record on another channel to the one being watched. Result, thank you Sam. I have noticed that to stop a recording you have to get back to the banner at bottom of screen, click record again, which brings up a summary of what is being recorded etc and there you click stop recording. Otherwise I suspect the recording does not get saved and that's Bern part of my problem.

As we have established choosing a different usb device for storing recordings will not be possible until the next update. However, I did attempt to format my usb hard drive with rufus but it was not recognized and there appears to be no way to add it. What is the proper way to format a usb hard drive please as I really would prefer to use it's larger capacity.

Early recording start changed in settings and now understanding remote control buttons better. 😁

Not sure I'm the one to ask being a beginner myself, but I'm sure Sam and others more knowledgable than me will be able to help. Some of the learning is trial and error. 😀

Yes, thanks Sam all solved. I'm happy using the SD card/adapter so will forget the hard drive 😁
