How do you restart your box daily? Shutdown/Start or Standby/Start? I dont know. When I shut off my receiver (several times daily)that its connected to, the light on the box eventually turns red so I'm not sure what state it's in.
I am not on the latest FW/SW yet but fat32/exfat never really worked well for me, I would always recommend to format to ntfs, for example using these steps.
if I remember, you have to format the disk UNDER the formuler.
exit mtvonline2, go to configuration / stockage & reset / removable storage / format / erase and format as device storage
this is I have done
Format like in Article ddd posted on pc and not on Formuler.
I'm getting a similar problem and have had an off and on problem since aquiring a device in Feb. Problem persists with multiple USB devices with 250gb to 1tb storage and after formatting as per above.
Please explain in detail "off and on problem" and what kind of devices exactly?
By off and on I mean sometimes it works for 30 minutes to an hour but never longer than that and sometimes the recording doesn't work at all.
This was an infrequent problem with my formuler z7 and a problem all the time with the formuler z8. Problem exists with multiple storage devices with multiple storage file systems.
My device was refurbished but purchased through formuler so I'm curious if it was the reason the first person returned it.
Reason for the delay in responding :there hasn't been anything worth recording until recently due to live sports being cancelled. Any help greatly appreciated!
and a problem all the time with the formuler z8
1. Check if latest update was installed and factory reset your Z8 and set fresh again, this all without any connected USB recording device.
2. Format your HDD or USB stick you want to use with Z8 on pc and "Rufus Tool" exactly like in this article -> How to format Micro SD card, USB flash drive, pen drive, hard drive or SSD for use with Z and S Boxes.
3. Connect your USB recording device with the box and restart the box once (the box creates needed folders like Recording, Screenshots etc.)
4. In MOL2 menu -> Settings -> Set your recording device (label) for recording and timeshift if in use.
5. Test again.

The issue is still occurring. After going through steps 1-5 I am still having the problem. Although, this time the warning reads " Warning Storage Disconnected." This happens even though the storage device is connected. To make it work (briefly) again, I have to unplug the storage device and plug back in.
USB Port have problem or the controller from your hdd case have problem, but if you tested already with more than one hdd and the same issue comes again, then we have only the USB port as reason for this. Please contact your seller and ask about warranty.
There is one more thing i forgot. I hope you didn`t use for all hdd`s the same cable or?

You should only format on PC with ntfs, connect the hdd with the box and restart the box (OS creates needed folders), later start Mol2 and in Mol2 settings/DVR options, choose your hdd for recording.
Please do not format the hdd again on the box, makes no sense.

Thank you so much Sam for your help.It worked! But the hdd has the New Volume ,and not Western Dig.!!Besides,Apps download on internal storage!!and recording on external drive.Is it possible to have the apps and recording on the external drive.

But the hdd has the New Volume
Changed through formatting or gave other name from box. If all works, no problem.
Apps goes always on internal flash, xxx faster than hdd.
