Unable to get 4k output from my Z8 Pro

Good afternoon,

I'm struggling with my Z8 Pro.

I have a brand new 2021 LED TV, that supports 4K and HDR.

Using HDMI 2.0 leads direct between my amp and my TV.

My amp supports 4K pass through fine.

Every single channel I choose in UHD I only get 1080i picture.

I've set the video options to output in 4k 60Hz.

But still I'm only getting 1080i.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Updated to the latest software versions after a factory reset a few days ago. I can provide the version info if required.

The info button shows you the real stream resolution, no matter how your provider calls this channel. Some Provider write UHD an content shows only HD or FHD.

Yeah, that's true.

Even if I choose a UHD channel info only shows only 1080i.

I used to get a 4K output from it. Kinda weird right?

Weird is only the Provider who use such tricks! There are providers who also offer real 4k (quality is instantly visible) and only name such channels as uhd.

Is there a channel you know of who offers a true 4k signal I could test?

There are some, but further discussion about this would lead into question "Which one Provider" and we do not discuss here on forum about Provider names or links to them, for obvious reasons.

You can go to VOD and start to play some 4K movie, if real, the info button will show you the right 3840 resolution.

Ah. That's fair enough. I'll have a look through VOD and see if I can find a full 4k movie. I will update you when I've done some testing tomorrow. Thanks for the help so far though!

Majority of services use these tricks to intice new customers,had one recently saying he had loads of 4k channels,even says it's 4k in the channel list but I t s actually jst 1080p

I seem to actually be missing the 4K movie option from VOD now.

Something very weird going on with my box.

Any thoughts people?

Bought a 2021 Sony 55" TV with HDR, so I could make full use my Z8 Pro.

Ah, no worries about the 4K option missing from my box.

My supplier said VOD is being rebuilt at the moment.

I will wait until it's finished before seeing if I can get a 4K output from my box.

Test 4k decode by playing any 4k video available on Youtube.

Open the "Stats for nerds" window to show advanced playback stats.

Hmmm.

Tested through the Z8 Pro box and now trying the built in YouTube app through the TV.

Same issue. Maybe I need HDMI 2.1 cables?

Current/Optimal Res is 3840x2160. This is 4k resolution. Everything appears to be working correctly in your photo.

I plan to upgrade my Denon amp so I get 4k 120fps on all ports. That'll come further down the line.

Doesn't explain why I can't get anything other than a 1080i from my Z8 Pro though.

I might wait until the 4k Movies come back to VOD. Then do another test.

Perhaps the cause of your problem is hidden in the settings of your TV...

Look for the appropriate settings on your tv....

In your screenshot you can see that you are playing in 4k, but the TV is processing it in 1920x1080. This is obviously not the right setting of the TV as in which format to decode it.

I think "Viewport" is the UI resolution. It isn't related to the HDMI output resolution or the video decoding resolution.

That advice was very useful... sadly, myZ10 still has audio sync problems and Hustle 4K seems to be in 1920*1080 I guess there is no truth in advertising

That being said... I just found the VOD that actually has some 4K (ie the Bourne Identity) and the results are SPECTACULAR

Ye the z10 audio sync issue has been mentioned a few times.when I played a 1080p movie in kodi or vlc it would always upscale it to 4k if auto refresh rate was on,turn it off and the movie plays at 1080p

Hmm, this is very odd indeed.

Set all the HDMI inputs to enhanced more with 4k support.

Even changed the HDMI lead to a full fat 48Gb 2.1 cable.

Still getting only a 1080i signal even on ALL of the FHD channels.

Might message the guy I bought the box off, see what he says.

It was already explained to you that your Formuler device is operating correctly in 4k resolution. This was verified using the Youtube app.

Please stop complaining about provider-specific issues on this forum.

Sorry about that. I didn't mean to complain like that.

Did the YouTube shot show it was running in 4k?

Or was it running in a lower res?
