I’m getting an error whereby the screen on mytvonline freezes and I can’t select any menus. Only way to do so is turn off the box and turn it back on.
the errors say: “LeanbackLauncher isn’t responding”
I’m getting this daily now and even after I’ve reset the device and reset software.
any ideas why this is happening and how it can be fixed

Did you plug in some new device or install some new apps, since this issue appear?
Hi. No I haven’t installed anything new.
Only stock apps on the device.
When you close all apps in background " Menu button holding for 2sec and closing all apps with red button" does this error happen again?

when I close all apps the screen freezes with the channel playing in the background and get the leanback error again.
only way is to turn off the box at the power source and turn back on.
cant seem to understand what I can do to stop this happening.
Sorry to say, but if nothing new connected to your box or new incompatible apps installed that could be the reason for this issue, there is only factory reset we can do.
Ok I’ve reset it again and now I get Mytvonline2 isn’t responding
I then have to power off the box.
is there an issue with the latest version? 7.5.6?
Since you say you have "only stock apps installed" and 7.5.6 is out for some weeks already and nobody else reporting this I suspect there is some hardware issue.
Do you have any usb device attached?
Perhaps try to unplug everything except for the mininum, so:
- Unplug IR extension cable-led.
- Unplug USB cables/storage.
- No active bluetooth
- Stop the Samba service
- Disable wifi
Then reboot with only the following cables inserted:
- Power
- HDMI
- Ethernet
If the issue persists I would assume there is a hardware component defect inside the Z8...
I hadn’t experienced any issues until the past few weeks then it went haywire.
the only thing left plugged in was an external 2TB HDD, I’ve unplugged it as suggested above and it’s not yet repeated the issue. hopefully that’s resolved it but I’ll see what happens in the next half hour or so and confirm.
Ok so for now it seems the issue hasn’t reoccurred so will test further for longer and confirm again in due course.
maybe the 2TB HDD was too high capacity for the Z8, I’ll try something smaller

What format do you use for your hdd?
We have alredy users with 4tb working hdds without issues.
Ok so the size should be ok.
It’s Format to NTFS
Please format the hdd again with NTFS like in this Article -> How to format Micro SD card, USB flash drive, pen drive, hard drive or SSD for use with Z and S Boxes.
Btw. check also your hdd on pc
with some tool if you can find some bad sectors or similar.
I can confirm that using diskmgmt.msc on windows also works. In that windows tool, create one partition with one filesystem with the maximum device/disk size and then format filesystem that as NTFS.
It would be advisable to check the hard disk for errors.
The problem could be that the system is stuck waiting for a response from the hard drive when connected to the formuler box

Check also the power consumption of your hdd if this matches with usb port specs. Is also important when such issues appear.
Ok sorry for the delay.
I removed the 2TB HDD from one of the USB ports (the right side as if you’re facing the front of the box) and changed it to the left USB. So far no further issues so i assume one of the USBs are 2.0 and the other 3.0? If so it seems the HDD cable is not backward compatible whereas the HDD itself is?
Alternatively it could be as Sam said the power consumption of one usb is greater than the other?
Anyway it’s sorted for now so I guess this can be marked as solved.

Ok, you plug out from USB 3.0 Blue into USB 2.0 White. Now is your Hdd connected with USB2.0 and works great, means power consumption was not the issue.
Reason is, USB 2.0 have Power usage up to 500 mA and USB 3.0 up to to 900 mA. USB 3.0 allows better power efficiency with less power for idle states. Can power more devices from one hub. All HDD`s are backward compatible and with this also the cables, so this should also not be the problem. Except the Cable is faulty and broke somewhere or the hdd have problems on 3.0 with idle state or similar. If the issue occur again, please format the hdd like in our Article, because this is in 80% the reason for such issues.
