So I bought a z8 last wk and bought a Verbatim Pin Stripe 128gb usb stick for recording. My problem is that if the box sits idle for too long then the usb disconnects and I have to unplug and replug it back in to get it working again. The device works on the box as I have recorded things onto it, problem is over night things won't get recorded because the usb stick disconnects. I have tried both usb ports on the z8

Be sure you use last update and test with other usb stick. I test very much and never saw such usb stick behaviour.

Works fine on my end.
I just got my Z8 2 weeks ago as well.
Currently have Z8 Firmware 1.4.46
Using ADATA 128GB USB3.2 stick out of box formatted with FAT32 plugged into blue USB port on right hand side.
Have mini keyboard FOB plugged into USB 2 port on left side.
Have no problems recording at anytime. The stick is recognized at all times.
I did NOT use the Z8 to format the memory stick, I just plugged it in and it works.
Try what SAM says above.
Good luck and let us know what you find out by posting your results so others can benefit.

I will try another stick. I've reformatted the usb to NTFS at the advice of someone on telegram, see if that works
The stick works and is recognized by the box, I can record to it just for some reason if it sits idle too long itll disconnect
I have newest update (not the beta one that was just released) and newest version of MOL2

Update;
Reformatted the usb stick last night and still had the same problem...usb stick disconnected again. I'm at a loss now no idea what to do
-
Formatted a Sandisk 128gb stick with NTFS and have already recorded 7 or 8 programs without any problems. Mine is in the USB port on the right-hand side of the Z8 (Usb 3.0 port). Good luck

Mine is there as well...recording is not the issue, I can record, the issue is if I leave the box idle (ex over night) the stick will disconnect
-
Can you try another stick?
Also my Google Home disconnected in the nighttime as well and I unplugged/replugged my router and it seemed to fix it, try that too.
Let us know.

1. Format your usb stick like in this article and with rufus tool, in 90% it helps always > How to format Micro SD card, USB flash drive, pen drive, hard drive or SSD for use with Z and S Boxes.
Test again after Rufus format and NTFS if the stick disconnects.Question:
1. How do you shutdown your box? Standby, power off or not at all?
2. What do you use as connection, ID/Mac , XC Api or M3U? Important because of Provider Play time and 3h.
Btw. if i read the reviews in web about this stick, they are not the best. At least what i found and i don`t know which you exactly have in use.
How ever, try the 1. and report back. You can also check on manufacturer homepage if this stick have some extra features like green mode or similar, everything is possible.

Ok I will try, is there a Rufus equivalent for a mac? I use m3u as my connection for iptv
Should I try a fat32 format instead?

I highly recommend NTFS. Since I use that, recording (and viewing/deleting recordings) is a lot more stable.
However the filesystem type will most likely not make any difference with the "disconnect issue". That is more likely to be related to some Android APM/ACPI "feature".

Hmm alrighty .. it's formatted right now on NTFS so I guess i got unlucky and chose the wrong stick to use .. least I have a backup stick now

I was never able to get the stick working..forgot I had a 2TB external HD that I wasn't using so I just hooked that up and now we are good

Excellent. Thanks for posting the fix. I guess it was the stick after all.
