All of a sudden my wifi speeds are faster than my ethernet speeds is there any reason this should happen?

Maybe your connected up to a 5gHz wifi point, which is the fastest connection available?
On the other hand there may be something happening with your ethernet.
Why dont you try wifi-analyzer from market?

Bum cable or switch port?

Bum cable or switch port?
Yes a friend of my had same
Had an old router with 100mb ethernet ports.
Check all your ethernet ports on your router and or wifi over power devices and or switch.
Check of all types of these are 100 or 1000mb

Happy hotspur, do you use VPN,as this may slow your internet speed?
-
Happyhotspur, if you Google "why is wifi faster than ethernet?" you will find a rather technical explanation of the matter, i am not technical enough to fully understand it, but it may help you further!

Power save option (most cases standard option) limits on some routers the lan speed, first when you change into power mode you get full speed. Router isp reset or update can change this, check router power settings. This doesn't affect wlan speed.

Z10 Pro Specs:
Ethernet port: max 100Mbps
WiFi (802.11ac 2T2R): max 866Mbps
It isn't difficult to see why the wifi could be faster.

Oops, overlooked that it is only the pro version, had max version in mind. Of course, it's no wonder that wifi is faster.
-
As i understand it (Quote happyhotspur) his ethernet was initially faster and this has changed into his wifi being faster,You havent explained this by your comments (Quote SAM,Quote175n) ?

100 mbps Ethernet (LAN) and 876 Mbps Wlan explain everything. It is just impossible to have faster ethernet than wlan on this box. Except, there was something gone wrong on router side and the wlan throughput was much less than Ethernets 100 mbps. Router restart or channel change (Router) fix such things.
-
OK,that is a plausible explanation !

-
This issue is true, I have an 1GB ETERNET and speeds are slow, specially on upload speeds, Flu-duplex is not enable
-
I have 200 mbyt fiber internet speed to my Z 10 pro max box, should I get it via wifi or connect with ethernet cable.
-
- Official Post
Z10 pro max have 1GB Ethernet and Wifi 867 Mbits Link speed, your ISP deliver 200 Mbit. No matter what you use the link speed from the box is much higher, more than 200 you will not have. Connect what you like.
-
so then ethernet cable for more stable performance
-
Why is ethernet more stable (it is not mentioned in SAMs post #15) ,he states "connect what you like",WIFI works fine on my Z10 pro ?
-
Ethernet is a direct wired connection. It is the most stable connection.
Wifi is subject to speed fluctuations and interference from other devices.
Wifi speed is also impacted by the walls, floors and other obstacles between the device and the router…and of course overall distance.
-
You"re correct that a wire connection may be more stable, but nowadays multiple wifi pods connections make the difference very small, I have just about everything (desktop, laptop, printer etc) on a flawless wifi connection!
As SAM mentioned it is entirely up to the user to choose between wifi and ethernet.
-
Hi all for your comments I contacted my ISP who sent an engineer around and he changed my router saying that the old one was very old. What a difference now I'm getting over 450 download speeds and 350 upload speeds with the ethernet and 410 download and 290 upload with 5G wifi so no real issues anymore it was the old router that was the issue
Thank again all

Hi,happyhotspur, as you are living in Spain,as I understood from your earlier posts,it might be very well possible that your wifi upgrade to 5G is a recent event,as when i visited Spain about a year ago the internet on the cell was 4G,in a lot of regions overthere !
I am interested what is your first choice now, 5G wifi or ethernet?

-
Hi henkie
To be honest I still prefer the 5G for some reason the picture seems better and so far not had any issues with the supply, but I guess my opinion of my picture would be different in somebody else's eyes so I guess its just subjective rather than either being better, but all I can say is that since the new router everything is faster

,glad you"re happy,it suits your name!
