  • HI

    Can anyone help me.

We sell loads of Formuler boxes and usually have no issues.

However, sold a Z11 Pro Max to a client with an LG TV model number 55UH605V which has 3-HDMI ports running HDMI 2.0A. All connects fine but only displays the Formuler Z11 Pro Max logo and then black screens with the TV stating No Source found. I tried a factory reset on both the Z11 Pro Max and on the TV but it made no difference. I also tried a different HDMI cable that was working with another device perfectly and the same issue occured. I tried in all three HDMI ports and the same issue. I ended up having to refund the client and lost money. It works on Sony TV's no problem and my small 8-year old LG TV.

I have now sold another Z11 Pro Max to a different client also with an LG TV model number LG OLED65C9MLB and the same issue is happening on their TV in all 4 HDMI ports running HDMI 2.1. I fear I will have to refund him as well.

Is this an issue anyone else has come up against??

Is this an issue with the Z11 Pro Max and LG TV's?

  • I have Oled 55B6V with 4 HDMI (ARC, CEC, MHL)
Connected to HDMI 4 and it works perfectly.
TV starts automatically when I press ON for Formuler Z11.

  • 1. hdmi:

try to disable hdr or also called ultra deep color

    2. resolution:

pressing the info button on the lg remote should show resolution of the connected device.

try using another display to reduce the formuler resolution to 1080p

    3. check for software up date on the lg tv.

Customer should do following on Formuler box and this please with delivered HDMI Cable.

    Home menu ->Settings -> Device Preferences :

    1. Set static screen resolution and not AUTO

    2. HDMI CEC -> All OFF

    3. HDCP -> Switch between 1.4 and 2.2

When all works fine then the settings can be changed one by one if needed.

I have 2 LG TVs (a few years old) and there are no issues.

Did you receive the product back from the customer yet? If you received the returned product, did you test it on your own TVs?

Maybe the HDCP handshake is failing for some reason. On the returned product, download and install "DRM Info" from Play Store and check the HDCP status. Report back if there are any irregularities.

  • Hi, I just experienced exactly the same on an LG TV, but witha Z8 Pro. Using the supplied hdmi cable it all works, but when using the customers hdmi cable exactly what you describe happens on all 3 ports. Did a factory reset of the Z8, changed CEC settings, surround sound settings, hdmi 2.2 and 1.4 settings on the box, nothing solved the issue. Only when I used the hdmi cable that came standard with the Z8 Pro the issue was solved. I have no clue what causes the issue and how to solve it. Would like to hear how to trace the issue. The weirdest thingbis that the box worked for 1 year with the hdmi cable of the customer without any problem. Only when I changed the setting in the Z8 pro of the display area (to change it from 100% to a smaller %) the screen blacked out and never returned. With the standard hdmi cable all settings can be changed and the box and TV keep working. The customer uses 3 hdmi cables that all work perfectly with other devices, just not with the Z8 Pro…

    Hope to hear tour thoughts/suggestions…

  • Formuler devices work perfectly fine with LG TVs, especially the Z11 Pro Max. The remote controls every setting on an LG TV, which is remarkable when compared to other universal remotes. However, Formuler does not work well with JVC TV, as there are no TV codes in the Formuler code list for JVC TV. That's something I think Formuler needs to do for their next update, as very soon more people will be using their devices due to the third-party app block on other devices.

Sometimes another brand's codes will work. Try the Atvio brand codes. (answer from Gemini)

If that doesn't work, please share an image of your remote and the product label from the back of the TV

  • I believe those who are saying that their Formuler box works with LG TV’s.

BUT it is a fact that there is an issue that can cause a Formuler box to NOT work with LG TV’s as pdreamsmark and myself have experienced.

I have configured and installed almost 40 boxes and this only happened on a LG TV.

I have multiple Formuler boxes working perfectly on LG TV’s but the issue that pdreamsmark and I describe is real and has not been resolved yet.

So do not claim there are no problems with LG, you can only claim that you have not yet experienced any.

    Question for 175n:

When the app DRM info woupd show that the HDCP handshake is failing, what can I do to resolve that?
I have no access to the box to install that app yet, but from what I understand the app does not allow me to “reset” the handshake status?

In the next month or so I hope to get access to the box with the issue at customers site and investigate further and hope to resolve the issue with your help.

LG are great TV’s but they can cause an issue with Formuler boxes that we have not been able to solve as of yet.

  • MCIF I also had an issue with one LG oled tv which black screened right after the logo screen with Z8. Solution what I did was I plug it in another tv and change the resolution and plug it back into the LG and after it would work and not touch anything 😅 Recently I connected the same Z8 to another LG and that seemed to work fine. Seems like it depends on which LG model you have.

  • When the app DRM info woupd show that the HDCP handshake is failing, what can I do to resolve that?

The first thing I would try is to unplug the HDMI cable from the box and plug it back in so the HDMI/HDCP handshake is reinitiated. Then check the HDCP status again.

Thanks, will try to set resolution to 1080 and see what happens. The weird thing is that the same box works perfect on the LG with the hdmi cable that comes with the box, and after it happened it does not work with the 3 hdmi cables of the customer that it has worked with for the previous 18 months. Thing is that the 3 hdmi cables of the customer are in a tube behind the wall bcz customer wants them out of sight and the standard hdmi cable is too short for that.
So why won’t the box work with with the same hdmi cables it has worked with for 18 months while it does work without changing any setting (just plug it in) with the standard hdmi cable… beats me…

Maby due an lg tv update? That can also.

  • the 3 hdmi cables of the customer are in a tube behind the wall

How long is the cable that runs in the wall?

Do you know if there are any intermediary devices between the Formuler box and the TV? (HDMI Splitter, AVR, etc)

Approx 3-4 meters (10-13 foot). No other intermediary devices. Straight Z8Pro output to hdmi cable/TV input.

Worked for 18 months, as such, I changed screen size setting on the box and it went black. There are 3 identical hdmi cables coming from the TV’s 3 HDMI ports, all three give thw same result. Take out any of the 3 hdmi cables and plug in the hdmi cable that came with the box and all is good.
Factory reset made no difference, when connected using the standard hdmi cable that comes with the box, I can change whatever setting I want and it works and keeps working perfectly. Use any of the 3 long hdmi cables and the screen goes black. Hooked up my own Z11 Pro Max to the long cables and all works perfectly…

    Help… 😔

  • Help…

I think you should revisit the display settings. They need to be changed back to the original "working settings".

If you can't remember exactly what was changed to get back to the original configuration, maybe a factory reset of the Formuler is in order.

Does the Z8pro work well on other TVs with whatever cable?

Yes, I have done the full factory reset. All settings are back to normal and the box works well on other TV like my own Samsung.

and on customers LG but not with the long hdmi cables that it has always worked with before it happened.

With the long cable the Z8 Pro box displays the Formuler Z8 Pro logo and then black screens with the TV stating No Source found.

Plug in the standard hdmi cable and all is good.

    That is the weird thing.

After the Z8 logo do you see the android text logo?

    Try this:

Take the Z8 to a working TV and manually set the HDMI output resolution to 1080p60 or 1080p50. Turn off the Formuler and take it to the problematic LG TV and try to see if the problem went away.

Also when the Z8 is booting, use the TV remote to show the TV's info OSD that will show the current resolution and report your results.
